The Storyteller (Jim Henson`s) - Sapsorrow [Full Episode]

From an early German folk tale, this is a variant on Allerleirauh recorded by the brothers Grimm. There is a king, his dead wife, and his three daughters. Two are as ugly and as bad as can be, but the third, Sapsorrow, is as kind and as beautiful as her sisters are not. There is a ring belonging to the dead queen, and a royal tradition that states that the girl whose finger fits the ring will become queen as decreed by law. When Princess Sapsorrow slips on her dead mother's ring for safekeeping, the king finds out and must marry her according to the law. The princess goes into hiding, becoming a creature of fur and feathers, known as the Straggletag. She lives thus for years, working in the kitchen of a handsome, but arrogant, prince. On the night of the ball, she turns into Sapsorrow once more and captures the heart of the prince, leaving him naught but a single slipper as she runs off into the night. The prince scours the kingdom for the girl whose foot fits the slipper, and agrees to marry the Straggletag when hers is the foot it fits. This breaks the spell and they become wed.

Perpetual Storytelling Apparatus

storyteller.allesblinkt.com The Perpetual Storytelling Apparatus is a drawing machine illustrating a never-ending story by the use of patent drawings. The machine translates words of a text into patent drawings. Seven million patents — linked by over 22 million references — form the vocabulary. By using references to earlier patents, it is possible to find paths between arbitrary patents. They form a kind of subtext. New visual connections and narrative layers emerge through the interweaving of the story with the depiction of technical developments.

The Importance of Visual Storytelling

Nancy Duarte, Duarte Design (www.duarte.com) I've heard it said before that its the dark threads in the tapestry of our life that make it the most visually rich. There's a real beauty in the tension of dark times because it creates the definition of who we are. It's during these seasons that stories of heroism emerge. This particular season, everything is at risk--our revenue, our employees, and the stakes are higher than ever. During hardships people need to be motivated and have hope. When we hear stories of others overcoming obstacles, it inspires us. And if its coupled with a really clear directive and destination organizations will change. Your personal stories help communicate how you and your team are uniquely qualified to lead. Employees want to be lead by veteran over-comers--to see stories of previous victories. Then what you could do is collect and retell the stories that you hear your clients and employees tell. Use that information you collect from them to establish a vision that optimizes today yet still while building for tomorrow. Companies that chart a visual course for tomorrow can get out ahead and sustain lead in their industry for up to three years. Visual stories are kind of like a rally cry that creates a sense of destination and purpose. And it not only grounds the stakeholders into reality but it mobilizes them towards your vision. So take the time to prepare a presentation well because communicating value to your analysts and clients right now is ...

How To Tell A Story -The Seanachaí (Eamon Kelly)

Clip from 1987. The Traditional Art of Storytelling. The seanachaí made use of a range of storytelling conventions, styles of speech and gestures that were peculiar to the Irish folk tradition and characterized them as practitioners of their art. Although tales from literary sources found their way into the repertoires of the seanchaithe, a traditional characteristic of their art was the way in which a large corpus of tales was passed from one practitioner to another without ever being written down. Because of their role as custodians of an indigenous non-literary tradition, the seanachaí are widely acknowledged to have inherited -- although informally -- the function of the filí(poets) of pre-Christian Ireland. Some seanachaí were itinerants, traveling from one community to another offering their skills in exchange for food and temporary shelter. Others, however, were members of a settled community and might be termed "village storytellers." The distinctive role and craft of the seanchaí is particularly associated with the Gaeltacht (the Irish-speaking areas of Ireland), although storytellers recognizable as seanachaí were also to be found in rural areas throughout English-speaking Ireland. In their storytelling, some displayed archaic Hiberno-English idiom and vocabulary distinct from the style of ordinary conversation. Eamon Kelly (1914 -- October 24, 2001) was an Irish actor and author. Childhood Kelly was born in Sliabh Luachra, County Kerry, Ireland. The son of Ned ...

Scarface - I Seen A Man Die [Explicit]

From 1994 Album: "The Diary"..... Scarface's Myspace: www.myspace.com Get Scarface's Music: www.amazon.com & itunes.apple.com The Diary is the highly acclaimed third album from rapper Scarface. This album is one of the few to receive a perfect "5 Mics" rating from both The Source Magazine and XXL. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 albums chart (behind Kenny G's Miracles: The Holiday Album), and featured the Top 40 hit "I Seen a Man Die". Scarface began his career as Akshen (pronounced Action) recording solo for Lil' Troy's Short Stop Records, a local label in Houston. He would go on to sign with Rap-A-Lot Records and join a group who were collectively known as Geto Boys replacing one member who left, and released the group's second album Grip It! On That Other Level (1989), a highly successful LP that garnered the group a large fanbase, in spite of their violent lyrics keeping them from radio and MTV. He took his stage name from the 1983 film Scarface. The album Mr. Scarface Is Back was a success, and Scarface's popularity soon overshadowed the other Geto Boys. Scarface remained in the group while releasing a series of solo albums that kept him in the public view with increasing sales. This peaked with The Diary and The Last of a Dying Breed, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews and sales, and earned him Lyricist of the Year at the 2001 Source Awards. In 2002, he released The Fix, the follow up to The Last of a Dying Breed and returned to the ...

The Mean World Syndrome - Media As Storytellers (Extra Feature)

Buy DVD at www.mediaed.org The Mean World Syndrome Media Violence & the Cultivation of Fear A new film based on the late George Gerbner's groundbreaking analysis of media influence and media violence. Featuring George Gerbner and Michael Morgan For years, debates have raged among scholars, politicians, and concerned parents about the effects of media violence on viewers. Too often these debates have descended into simplistic battles between those who claim that media messages directly cause violence and those who argue that activists exaggerate the impact of media exposure altogether. The Mean World Syndrome, based on the groundbreaking work of media scholar George Gerbner, urges us to think about media effects in more nuanced ways. Ranging from Hollywood movies and prime-time dramas to reality programming and the local news, the film examines how media violence forms a pervasive cultural environment that cultivates in heavy viewers, especially, a heightened state of insecurity, exaggerated perceptions of risk and danger, and a fear-driven propensity for hard-line political solutions to social problems. A provocative and accessible introduction to cultivation analysis, media effects research, and the subject of media influence and media violence more generally. Also includes three additional short features -- ideal for classroom use -- that take a closer look at Gerbner's analysis and the Mean World Syndrome. 1. Junior Samples: Hee Haw Funny Man, Joke/Storyteller

Junior Samples: Funny Man, Joke/Story Teller Alvin Samples Jr. Apr. 10, 1926 ~ Nov. 13, 1983 Much-loved country comedian Junior Samples was a long-running regular on the TV show Hee Haw, where he was best known for his shaggy-dog storytelling, nearly incomprehensible accent, and colorful misuse of the English language (not to mention his trademark overalls). Junior was born Alvin Samples Jr. in Cumming Georgia. He made his living as a farmer, sawmill worker, stock car driver and carpenter and did not enter show business until age 40. He was discovered after a story he told about catching a record-setting fish was recorded by a Game Commission investigator and played on the radio. The recording was developed into an album and became a best-seller. In 1969 he was asked to join the cast of the country variety show "Hee-Haw." He developed a character made famous by his bumbling delivery often forgetting lines and messing up jokes. His most famous role was a used car salesman inviting potential customers to call his phone number, "BR-549." He released several other comedy albums and was twice nominated as "Comedian of the Year" by the Country Music Association. He remained a cast member on Hee Haw until his death on November 13, 1983
