In many ways, I see myself like Jonah. Number 1, I'm a prophet. In a sense, I speak forth, I preach the Word of God. Number 2, as I have learnt, I do not have the love for people as I should. Like Jonah, he hated the Ninevites and I can't say that I'm better than him in many ways. But thirdly, I see I am like Jonah in that I am as stubborn as he is, if not worst. Jonah now is a stubborn man, there's no doubt about it. He refused to do the work of God, fled to Tarshish and God, as a result, sent a storm to draw him back. In verse 4, we see that God sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. I mean, this was a severe one and maybe it would be enough to turn this man around. But you know what? The Bible says he totally ignored it. In verse 5, he was fast asleep! Hey, he went to sleep, this is a hardcore guy. In verse 12, we are told that he knew that all these storm, all these mess; all these calamity arose because of his own rebellion and stubbornness. But what is worst is that he did not repent still. We all can shake our head at Jonah and maybe express our disappointment at Jonah. But you see, I see myself this man's shoes. I see myself as a prophet who lack the love for people in my own life and who is also equally disobedient and stubborn in my own ways. Now Jonah disobeyed God and God sent a storm into his life. And maybe today you have disobeyed Him and He is sending storms into your lives ...
