UC Davis, Ca. Several students who were doused with pepper spray by UC Davis police Friday during an Occupy rally are speaking out. "It felt like hot glass was entering my eyes. I couldn't see anything, I wanted to open my eyes but every time I did, the pain got worse," David Buscho said during a rally Monday on campus. "I wanted to breathe, but I couldn't because my face was covered in pepper spray." Their comments came the same day UC Davis' Chancellor Linda PB Katehi tried to quell criticism over the incident, as well as how university officials handled the aftermath. "I am here to apologize," an emotional Katehi said after struggling through the crowd to a small stage where some of the students sprayed by campus police had just described their ordeal. "I feel horrible for what happened." The Friday incident, captured in videos that quickly went viral on the Internet, has triggered nationwide controversy about the forceful response by police to student protesters. The Occupy Wall Street movement in recent weeks has spread to college campuses, combining with student anger over rising tuition and cuts to higher education to inspire protests and sit-ins. April 3rd. 2012 , Santa Monica College /Youth4Truth Santa Monica College students were pepper sprayed by campus police today as they protested tuition hikes. Around 100 students gathered outside a board of trustees meeting shouting "Let us in," Michael Burnett, a chemistry student, said in an interview. Apparently students were trying to be admitted into the meeting of the Board of Trustees, to have a chance to voice their concerns and frustrations about a plan to increase tuition and offer high priced , unaffordable summer-courses many of the students say they cant afford . Students report that one of the officers "felt threatened" by a 5'4 female student and therefore grabbed he and tackled her into a choke-hold before he started spraying pepper spray into her eyes and mouth at arms length. It wasn't just students protesting tuition hikes who were blasted with pepper spray by campus police at Santa Monica College yesterday. This child—apparently a 4-year-old girl—was also hit. The students, and child, were pepper-sprayed to prevent them from "storming"—ie attending—a board of trustee's meeting. Faculty and students are calling for the resignation of University of California, Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi today after a campus police officer directly pepper-sprayed occupy movement protesters who had locked arms and were seated on the ground last week. "I personally feel really very bad about what happened to students in the whole incident," Katehi said. At a teleconference Saturday, Katehi said she didn't think it's "appropriate" for her to resign, the Modesto Bee reported. She initially voiced support of the police, who wore riot-gear during the stand-off, having given them to order to dismantle the UC Davis Occupy encampment because camping on college grounds is officially forbidden.
