London received a striking visitor today as the worlds newly-crowned tallest man, Turkish Sultan Kösen (26) who measures a staggering 8 ft 1 in (246.5 cm), toured the city in celebration of the launch of Guinness World Records 2010 edition (published 17th of September). Earlier this year, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, travelled to Turkey to personally validate the claim of Kösen under strict Guinness World Records guidelines, which stipulate that the claimant must be measured three times in one day. The average of the measurements is the definitive height as it is medically proven that the body expands and shrinks throughout the day. To Glendays surprise, he discovered that Kösen also has the worlds largest hands and largest feet measuring 27.5 cm and 36.5 cm, respectively, making him a triple record holder. Kösen is also the first person in more than a decade to officially measure over 8 ft in height. He takes the record title from Chinas Bao Xi Shun (7 ft 8.95 in), after Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyks (8 ft 5.5 in) claim to the title was discredited in 2008 when he refused to be independently measured. Glenday said: We only know of 10 confirmed or reliable cases in history of humans reaching 8 ft or more. Tipu Sultan Funeral. Please Note: The subtitle at 33 seconds should read "There is no God but one God" it has been mistranslated. On the next day, at about four 'o'clock, the Sultans funeral procession started and was followed by prince, officers and four companies of the British army. The faithful wounded soldiers of the Sultan and other persons were ahead and were holding the sultan on their shoulders. There was lot of fear and terror in the city due to looting and plundering which took place in last night. Streets and bazaars were vacant. When the funeral procession left the Fort all men, women and children from all the communities joined it with heavy heart. On the way, the number of people increased and their fear and terror decreased gradually. They were considering themselves the most unfortunate people and were thinking that the Sultans corpse is their guard. The men of Srirangapatnam wept loudly and women untied their braids in grief of the Sultans death. When the funeral procession left the Fort, the wind was very slow and there was too much humidity in the atmosphere. The people were watching a dangerous storm on the horizon. After some time a black storm covered the entire sky. When the procession reached Lal Bagh and the qazi finished the funeral prayer, the corpse was placed respectfully in the grave. At that time there was a severe thundering in the sky. People were very afraid of it. The British army ordered for the gun salute but the sound of the guns was <b>...</b>
