I am in Allentown PA today and thought I'd take a minute to record this new song ;) I found a nice little nook behind the hotel and in order for me to make the video happen .... I found an abandoned chair in the parking lot (missing an arm) and a shopping cart which I used to prop the computer with the camera. Hope you like it ! Nathan Leopold, Jr. and Richard Loeb were two Jewish intellectuals who became famous for the kidnapping and murder of a boy named Bobby Franks. These brilliant, precocious eighteen-year-old gentlemen genuinely took pleasure in criminal activity, the savagery of which remains legendary. Their motives were chilling. They wanted to do it simply to prove to themselves that they were smart enough to get away with it. After committing the murder, however, they were easily captured by the innumerable clues they left behind and by their jumbled alibis, and the subsequent trial became international news and served to reinforce the cultures then-stereotypes about the dangers of homosexuality, Judaism and intellectualism. Leopold and Loeb escaped the death penalty only because of an impassioned defense by Clarence Darrow, the best-known defense attorney of the time, who argued that they were insane, and used their homosexuality as proof of insanity. Swimming Cities by Swoon
At SMAC we have a sweet spot for Swoons fantastic projects. We spoke to her in the summer about an installation at a HoneySpace and most recently about the project at the Deitch Projects. Seven handmade boats glided into the waters of the East River, as part of Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea. The show, produced by New-York artist Swoon, debuted this fall at Deitch Studios in Long Island City. We had seven, but one died so we had to leave it, Swoon shouted to the crowd celebrating the September opening of Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea. As a marching band played and the sun went down over Manhattan, a steamer and five other old-fashioned boats were being docked following a three-week journey down the Hudson River and around the tip of Manhattan. Wearing a girly white ruffled dress, smiling Swoon greeted the crowd and showered them with sunflowers. Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea is a floating art performance, a project that took the efforts of seventy-five collaborators and a year to produce. The boats, or floating sculptures, were assembled and shipped to Troy, New York, stopping by various towns along the river for impromptu performances. In 2006, Swoon participated in a similar project with a group of her friends when they sailed the assembled rafts down the Mississippi River. This time, the boats are just a part of Swoons show, which also has an enormous exhibit at the Deitch Studios. A twenty-five foot high paper sculpture of two sisters embracing occupies the <b>...</b>

TEDxBrooklyn- Callie Curry aka Swoon
Swoon is a Brooklyn-based artist whose life-sized woodblock and cut-paper portraits hang on walls in various states of decay in cities around the world. She has designed and built several large-scale installations, most notably the Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea at Deitch Projects in 2008. Her pieces have been collected by The Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, & the Tate Modern. Major pieces have appeared at PS1, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and Black Rat Press. Swoon is also an instigator and a collaborator. She founded the Toyshop collective and the Miss Rockaway Armada, and is a member of Just Seeds and the Transformazium. Since 2006 she has organized four large-scale raft projects and floated down the Mississippi and Hudson rivers with them. Most recently, she and her collaborators designed a flotilla of sea-going rafts that invaded the 2009 Venice Biennale. Her artistic process is predicated on the belief that art is an immersive, provocative, and transformative experience for its participants. Although her aesthetics can be seen as an outgrowth of street art, her engagement with ethical living and making art share a close kinship with the idealism of off-grid, barter-based cultures and economies based on sharing.
