SYD BARRETT The Madcap laughs recorded 1968-1969 KALIEDOSCOPE VIDEO 'NO GOOD TRYING' FEATURING THE PHOTOS OF MICK ROCK A HOWARD BE THY NAME PRODUCTION HOWARD STOREY The Madcap Laughs is Syd Barrett's first solo album after being replaced in Pink Floyd by his old school friend David Gilmour. The title of the album comes from a line in the song Octopus. After leaving the group, Barrett began recording sessions with former Pink Floyd-turned-Syd Barrett manager Peter Jenner in May 1968. Although the sessions were brief, and they produced some fine material, the project was abandoned for almost a year while Barrett spent much of the year as a recluse.

Song originally written by Syd as a teen during the height of Bob Dylan mania in Europe (pre-Pink Floyd). During the recording of one of his solo albums (post-Pink Floyd), Syd was reminded of this track by producer David Gilmour & encouraged to record it. That tape stayed in Gilmours possession for 30+ years until released in 2001. In "Bob Dylan Blues", Syd not only composes a song poking fun at all of the Bob Dylan hype, but manages to do it in Bob Dylan's own talking blues style! The music video is by director Jimmy Lee. It was made during his freshman year of college at Temple University in Philadelphia. This was his first attempt at editing a video on a computer.

The official video of the successful Sydney Flash Mob Freeze staged on June 24th 2008 by the www.sydneyflashmob.com crew, and inspired by Improv Everywhere. The event attracted over 2200 'mobbers' to Hyde Park in Sydney at 12 midday, and the group was split up across two locations: Martin Place and Pitt Street Mall. After synchronising watches, all participants made their way to their locations and blended in with the general busy daytime public, and at exactly 12:40pm all participants froze mid-pose, and then suddenly re-animated at exactly 12:43. The event received national news coverage, and thanks to the success of this event we do plan bigger and better things for the future so stay tuned! "Terrapin" is a song by Syd Barrett that appears as the first track off his first solo album The Madcap Laughs and is notably the sole representative from that album that appears on The Peel Session.[1] The song's arrangement is sparse, like much of the album, and features only acoustic and electric guitar accompaniment to the vocals. The song has been covered by Phish, The Smashing Pumpkins, Marc and the Mambas, as well as David Gilmour, who featured the song on the live album David Gilmour in Concert. The Syd Barrett Appreciation Society titled its official magazine Terrapin (published from 1972-1976), in tribute to the song. Just something simple for people to put on their MySpaces, etc. This is the version from the old VHS tape of Pulse (which IMHO had much better camera angles than the new DVD). The beginning and one verse from the middle (at 6:13) had to be edited out to fit it into YouTube's 10 min. requirement. But the whole movie they showed at the concert is here since it's probably supposed to represent Syd's life (or anybody's).... This is from Earl's Court, London in October of 1994.
