Fire storm destroys homes in Sylvan Lake
Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Three houses and at least one vehicle were destroyed in an afternoon fire in Sylvan Lake on Tuesday afternoon. Whipped along by high winds the fire spread quickly to from one house to another before Sylvan Lake fire fighters were able to bring it under control Several other houses on the street were also damaged in the blaze when the vinyl siding melted. I went for a day at the beach, saw smoke and drove towards it to find this. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. The wind turned this thing into an inferno. It was 5 pm and the end of a hot (31C) day and there was a pretty strong land breeze affecting the area. The fire grew FAST and was super hot. I could feel the radiant heat quite strongly from where I stood, about 100M from the house. Watching the flames engulf something so familiar was unsettling. Dogs barked out the cries of their owners, who stood slack-jawed and motionless, much like myself. Some women wiped away tears, while most of the men stood by stoically, making ominous predictions whilst confirming their recent suspicions with head-shaking and words like "Whoa" or "There it goes." Children were visibly upset, most of them crying and wailing aloud, while teenagers ran or biked around excitedly, talking amongst themselves about how crazy this was while taking every opportunity they could to insert profanity into their accounts in order to underline the seriousness of the event. No doubt, for most of the people watching that day, this wasn't just a non-fatal house fire, to be reckoned with mostly by insurance companies and lawyers. I think that this fire must have appeared to the residents of this neighborhood much as I suspect it to did the children and the dogs; that is as a monster, eating a neighborhood whole, in real life. I have a new appreciation for the responsibility of fire fighters for sure. Thanks to the <b>...</b>

Sylvan Lake is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of the city of Red Deer along Highway 11 or Highway 11A. It is situated on the southeast edge of Sylvan Lake, a 15 kilometres (9 mi) long freshwater lake, in Red Deer County. The Sylvan lake is a popular destination for tourists from around Alberta, with over 1.5 million visitors each year. Popular tourist activities include sunbathing, swimming, water-skiing, and visiting the local Wild Rapids Waterslides.

SYLVAN WHITE - World of Confusion - reggae dub 7" single
An earlier and different cut of Sylvan White's "World of Confusion" which was issued as a 12" and also released on his compilation "Africans Unite". This 7" version is on the Freedom Sounds label and is of 1978 vintage and produced by M Chin and mixed by the almighty King Tubby. -------------------------------- The story of Freedom Sounds began in the ghetto of Greenwich Town, Western Kingston, in 1975. Label founder / producer Betram Brown (born February 17th 1950) took singer Philip Frazer into the studio with the local band, Soul Syndicate, led by guitarist Earl 'Chinna' Smith. The first release was called 'This Time Won't Be Like The Last Time'. Over the next five years Bertram would record some of the most intense roots music of the decade, with singers like Prince Alla, Earl Zero, Rod Taylor, Frankie Jones, Milton Henry, Sylvan White, Roy Palmer and Sammy Dread, most of whom were based in Greenwich Town. Bertram also used the studio of the dub originator King Tubby for voicing and mixing. All Freedom Sounds dubs were mixed by the King himself. Often Bertram and friends would have to lock themselves in with Tubby - the studio was located near to a gully which marked the boundary between two warring political zones. The heavy Soul Syndicate rhythm tracks - all, incidentally, original rhythms purpose-built for the songs - presented Tubby with an ideal opportunity to manifest his singular powers of reinvention in serious dubwise fashion. This is some footage from day three of our cruise. We took a little "tender" boat ride from the ship to shore in Cabo and spent a couple of hours walking around the Marina and out onto the beach. It was a beautiful day and after weeks of rain and drizzle in the Bay Area, I wanted to soak up every drop of sun possible and ended up getting sunburned. After a couple of hours, we went back to the ship for lunch.
