Taiwanese - Friendly, Crazy, Cool

I meet some people and make some new friends at the convenience store. The guy with the bomb was funny. He had a can and a stick....and he was running around screaming. His brother and him probably huff a bit too much glue....and aren't exactly firing on all cylinders. After the start of the video it kind goes downhill from there...kind of a mellow video. But it's part of the series. PS There's no outro or anything because I uploaded the file raw (didn't do any editing) you miss out on the outro, but should have a slightly better picture.

Incumbent president wins Taiwan election

Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou won a close battle for re-election on Saturday, leveraging his message of greater prosperity through expanded ties with China to beat his populist-minded opponent. With about 90 per cent of the vote counted, the official central election commission said Ma had gained 51 per cent of the total against 46.3 per cent for Tsai Ing-wen of the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party. Taiwan bans shark finning

Taiwan, which has the fourth largest shark-fishing industry in the world, has passed a new law to ban shark-finning. The practice of cutting off the fins and throwing the bodies back into the sea has been blamed for the 80 per cent drop in shark populations. The ban, which is due to take effect next year, has been welcomed by conservationists but they say it does not go far enough. Al Jazeera's Tarek Bazley reports.
Taiwan nervous over US fighter jets snub

Officials in Taiwan have voiced concerns over the US decision to not to sell their government new and more powerful F16 fighter jets. Critics have accused the US government of backing down on its pledge to help protect Taiwan and bowing to pressure from China, which is seen as a major threat to the island. Shuai Hua Min, a Taiwanese legislator, told Al Jazeera that Washington is not helping Taiwan maintain the arms calibre of Beijing. A US congressional panel is set to inquire senior officials over the deal next week. Steve Chao got exclusive access to Taiwan's F16 programme.

US should ditch Taiwan: New York Times op-ed

www.nma.tv Commie pandas must have slipped something into the water cooler at the New York Times yesterday, because the paper ran a shockingly ignorant and naïve op-ed suggesting that the US sell out Taiwan to China if Beijing would write off the US$1.14 trillion in American debt it currently holds. In To Save Our Economy, Ditch Taiwan, former Marine and Harvard fellow Paul V. Kane states that America's relationship with Taiwan is a Cold War anachronism that offers little strategic benefit to the US, observing that "absorption into mainland China is inevitable." Kane notes that such a deal would benefit China economically, as it would no longer have to spend the US$30 billion to US$50 billion a year that it currently uses for things like the 1500 missiles China has pointed at Taiwan. Kane wants President Barack Obama to make a backroom deal with the Communists in Beijing in which the US would agree to end "American military assistance and arms sales to Taiwan and terminate the current United States-Taiwan defense arrangement by 2015." We're Next Media Animation, not Foreign Affairs. So here it is in a nutshell: China would not stop with Taiwan. Gobbling up Taiwan is only one step in the People's Liberation Army Navy's plans (paywall) to develop a blue water navy that would project power out to Hawaii. If the US abandoned Taiwan, American allies in the region would wonder if they were next and reevaluate their own relationships with the US; if China controlled Taiwan, it ...

Taiwanese presidential election 2012: Who's gonna win?

www.nma.tv SONG Party people going out tonight, everybody just yell 凍蒜! (dong suan: get elected) We're gonna make you lose your mind, we just wanna see you...vote it! The world is focused on the US presidential primaries. But did you know that Taiwan will elect its president on Saturday? Taiwan is the only place in the Chinese-speaking world where people can freely choose their leaders. Voting is NOT something we take for granted. Our choices: The KMT's Ma Ying-jeou, the incumbent president who has edged Taiwan closer to China. The DPP's Tsai Ing-wen, an academic and former vice-premier whose party favors independence from China. Or former Taiwan provincial governor and ex-KMT member James Soong, for people who want to waste their votes. Turnout typically tops 80 percent, and Taiwanese fly home from all over the world just to vote.

Relations with China dominate Taiwan vote

Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou held a media conference ahead of Saturday's election, claiming that he is the only candidate in the race that can continue Taipei's strong and beneficial relationship with main land China. Speaking to mainly foreign journalists on Thursday, President Ma emphasised his success in the reconciliation effort that has changed the nature of the cross-strait relationships with China, a policy that he promises will continue in his second term. But, while most big businesses have thrown their support behind the president, many Taiwanese are still sceptical. They say Taiwan factories have lost business to China over the past few years. Al Jazeera's Steve Chao reports from Kinmen Island.

Taiwan president Ma Ying-jeou accused of spying on opposition

www.nma.tv Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou has been accused by the opposition Democratic Progressive Party of using Taiwan's intelligence apparatus to spy on DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen. Next Magazine broke the story after interviewing multiple unnamed government sources and obtaining internal Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau documents. The two intelligence agencies accused deny reporting on Tsai to Ma. They say it is common practice to monitor candidates' activities to ensure their safety. These denials are not convincing. In Taiwan politicians sue over the slightest provocation. But neither Tsai nor Next Magazine is being sued. This suggests that either President Ma was aware of the operation — which involved 28 Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau officials and was orchestrated by National Security Council Secretary General Hu Wei-chen — or that the president was unaware of the operation, thus indicating a serious lapse in the chain of command or even gross incompetence on Ma's part, as Hu reports directly to Ma.

Socialist Hollande wins French election

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Francois Hollande was elected president of France in the 2012 French presidential election Sunday, becoming France's first Socialist president in 17 years. North Carolina gay marriage ban puts pressure on Obama

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com The 2012 election is approaching and gay rights is the third rail for President Obama and the Democratic Party. Obama needs money from gay donors but can't afford to alienate Democrats opposed to gay marriage. Opinion polls show Americans are becoming more favorable to gay marriage, but less so in the key swings states of Florida, Virginia and Ohio, which have constitutional bans on gay marriage, and North Carolina, which banned gay marriage on Tuesday. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com North Carolina became the 30th state to ban gay marriage on Tuesday, when voters approved Amendment One, which prohibits not only gay marriage but also voids all other forms of domestic unions from carrying legal status. Roughly 70 percent of black voters, a key demographic for Obama and the Democrats, supported the amendment. Meanwhile California is moving in the opposite direction, as a bill makes its way through the state legislature that would ban psychotherapy aimed at making gay people straight. And Obama's vice president, Joe Biden, said over the weekend that he is "absolutely comfortable" with equal rights for same-sex couples and heterosexual couples.
