You can see LAX, the beach - Playa Del Rey (no smog!), the turn into the sun over the (few) clouds back over Hermosa Beach and then LA County as we go from west to east towards the Great Lakes and then Greenland and finally to Scotland then England. If you watch carefully during take off, you can see the "AirBUST" A380 aka Flying Junker (Qantas) parked at the satellite terminal because it cannot park at the main terminal. This is one of the best films of a 777 take off. You only get sound (AWESOME ENGINE SOUND) and a view like this from "The Bridge" - that is seat 4J - FIRST CLASS. Also, I dont show you my feet or make you dizzy like other vid's. As we climb, you can hear the Pursar making her announcements as we pass the beach and turn away from the sun and head towards "Blighty". I tried to hold the camera perfectly still for your benefit, but the power was just too much. Still an excellent video. After 10 minutes I started to become tired. So I turned off the camera, pressed recline (to bed position) and took a snooze for a while before my first (of many) scotch and soda's. Please enjoy and post your comments.

An Ilyushin IL-18 Coot ( Alada D2-FFR) Operated by DHL aborts takeoff from the 8202 ft long airstrip at Cabinda, West Africa. The pilot has done an excellent job; - there's a busy public road beyond the boundary fence,less than 50 metres from the end of the runway. Please don't ask me why he aborted; Sorry, I simply don't know. I have been advised that in point of fact this is a (former) IL-22 airborne command post stripped of mission equipment - note the fin tip pod which regular IL-18s do not have. Normally I do not film below 10000 feet, but this was a training video, used by our check airman to evaluate the procedures used for future 'bounces'. See the blog post I wrote about this training video: www.gadling.com We call 'em 'bounces.' This video was taken in 1999 when we were required to perform some takeoff and landing practice in the actual airplane after we finished up our simulator training. Our training airport was San Jose, CA with the touch and go landings at Sacramento. Airplane was a brand new 737-800.

The ONLY Mig-23 Flogger flying in the United States is based out of New Castle, DE. It made an appearance at the DEANG 60th anniversary airshow held at the airport. The pilot was limited to passes at 900 feet or above due to FAA regulations, but just seeing and hearing one made it worthwhile. This clip shows the takeoff and shutting down.

This huge A-10 Warthog RC model plane suffered not one but two engine fires shortly after takeoff. Skillful piloting prevented a crash and a lot of fire extinguishers enabled the model to be saved but it was pretty spectacular. There are other videos of this model flying (without the fire) on my channel. Filmed at the 2011 ANZAC international jet meeting in Tokoroa New Zealand. Imagine you're driving at the maximum speed allowed on a major highway and you have to suddenly stop the car. In April, a fully-loaded 747-8 Freighter with worn-out brakes attempted an aborted takeoff on a California runway. The rejected takeoff or maximum brake energy test is one of the most dramatic for a new airplane. It's basically what Boeing test pilot Captain Kirk Vining had to do recently with the new 747-8 Freighter during one of the most dramatic airplane certification tests. However, instead of a 4000-pound (1815 kilograms) car, the 747-8 weighed in at close to one million pounds. "In the emergency event that we have to make a rejected takeoff at these heavy weights, it takes a long distance for the airplane to stop," says Capt. Vining. The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and 747-8 Freighter are the new, high-capacity 747s that offer the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large passenger or freighter airplane. Both are on track to make their first deliveries later this year after certification. To simulate the ultimate rejected takeoff (RTO), crews loaded the airplane above its maximum takeoff weight of 975000 pounds and installed a set of 100% worn-out brakes. Here is a clip of a move I did a while ago back from Adelaide to Brisbane - Pulling a Drake 8 line platform with a 300 tonne mobile crane aboard - we had to use the day cab Super Liner to get our length down to avoid using police escorts in South Aust... This is footage of a United Airlines Boeing 777-200ER (New Colors!) International taxiing, holding, departing, and climbing out of Washington Dulles. The flight was UAL 897 in route to Beijing Capital International. First Class all the way! Listen to that Amazing Engine sound! Look at the ANA Boeing 777 at 1:57 heading out to Tokyo. Then watch as we depart and, turn right headed over Canada. We flew over Northern Alaska and, then south over Siberia into Beijing. Flight time was just over 14 hours. Seat was 3A. You may here a little bit of radio chatter in the background. I had channel 9 on and had my headphones up against my cameras mic, but it's very difficult to understand what they are saying due to the volume of channel 9. WATCH IN 1080p!
