He studied trumpet and brass ensemble conducting at the conservatoire in zurich, where he received his degree with honours. He won a competition from Migros, and received the subsequent grant which enabled him to spend a year at the Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur in Paris. He also spent time studying at the Northwestern University of Chicago with Vincent Cichowicz, Charles Geyer and at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester NY with Adolphe Herseth (Solotrompeter Chicago Symphony Orchestra). For 14 years, Markus Wuersch held the prestigious post of solo trumpeter at the Tonhalle orchestra, Zurich. In 1995, he spent a year studying in London at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music. There he was taught by Michael Laird and Crispian-Steele Perkins (Baroque-trumpet), Jeremy West (Cornetto/Zink) and Phillip Jones (Ensemble-direction).
