Derek Trucks, blues/blues-rock guitarist , born Jun 8, 1979 in Jacksonville, FL, is the nephew of longtime Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks. He displays a command of slide guitar styles running the gamut from blues to classic R&B and early rock & roll to classic jazz. Although blues players like Buddy Guy, Elmore James, and Duane Allman have been a strong influence on Trucks' slide guitar playing, so have pre-'70s jazz players like John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Sun Ra. Trucks began playing guitar when he was nine, and shared stages and sat in with the likes of Buddy Guy and the Allman Brothers Band by the time he was 12. In 1997 he formed The Derek Trucks Band, with whom he won a GRAMMY Award in 2010. Susan Tedeschi was born on November 9, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts to a family of Italian ancestry, (Tedeschi means Germans in Italian) and was raised in Norwell, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Dick Tedeschi, granddaughter of Nick Tedeschi and great-granddaughter of Angelo Tedeschi, of the supermarket and convenience store family well known in Massachusetts. Tedeschi has always been musically inclined, and made her debut public performance as a six-year old understudy in a Broadway musical. Also, she sang for family members and listened to her father's record collection of old vinyl recordings, like Mississippi John Hurt and Lightning Hopkins. Raised as a Catholic, she found little inspiration in the church choir, and so attended predominantly African-American Baptist churches, feeling the music was "less repressed and more like a celebration of God." She has played in bands since the age of 13. At the age of 18, she formed her first all-original group, The Smokin' Section, in the nearby town of Scituate, Massachusetts. After graduating Norwell High School, Tedeschi attended the Berklee College of Music where she sang in a Gospel choir. She performed show tunes on the Spirit of Boston and received her Bachelor of Music degree in musical composition and performance at age 20. The Tedeschi Trucks Band, formerly known as the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band is a blues rock group based in Jacksonville, Florida. Formed in 2010, the band is led by husband-and-wife musicians Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, and primarily features members from their respective solo groups. The core lineup is Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Oteil Burbridge, Kofi Burbridge, Tyler Greenwell, JJ Johnson, Mike Mattison and Nigel Hall. The Tedeschi Trucks Band was founded in 2010 after both Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi put their solo bands on hiatus to form a new group that lets the married couple focus on making music together, and allows them to spend more time together while touring and recording. Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi had toured together in 2007, under the name Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival, however this group's material was largely culled from Derek and Susan's respective solo projects, while the Tedeschi Trucks Band mostly focuses on performing original songs. After the announcement in late 2009 of a hiatus for both The Derek Trucks Band and Susan Tedeschi Band, the couple began writing new material, working out of their home studio in Jacksonville with a rotating cast of friends and musicians. Apart from having his own Derek Trucks Band, he toured with the Allman Brothers Band for many years before becoming an official member, which he still is. It was during one of their tours that he met Susan Tedeschi, already known as a blues and soul talent. She has several Grammy nominations to her name and was the frontwoman of her Susan Tedeschi Band. In past years, the lovers often performed on each other's records and concerts and even fused their respective band members under the nomer Soul Stew Revival.
