Reading magazines online requires alot of processing power because of the graphic nature of the application. Zinio has released a hardware accelerated application that is living up to the performance we've come to expect from Nvidia Tegra 2 applications. In a head to head battle with the iPad 1 which was released way back in April of 2010 the ACER Iconia Tab A500 which is only a few months old is not able to compete and falls several seconds behind when comparing page refresh rates. In previous testing with the non optimized Zinio application we actually saw quicker speeds, this was using the Motorola Xoom, but the hardware platform remains identical to the Acer Iconia Tab. What is surprising about the Zinio app on the Xoom is that it took 3 reinstalls to get even get it to open with out freezing or crashing. Something is definatley wrong with this update since it was meant to bring greater surfing ease to your magazine subscriptions! The two that stand out are its based on the 1GHz Dual Core Tegra 2 processor and its dual SIM card slots. What makes these dual SIM card slots interesting is that they are targeted at different networks so you'll be able to have one SIM running on the UMTS network and the EVDO network, basically GSM & CDMA. The design of the phone has a few features that are tailored for the Chinese market, like covering the ports to stream line the phone and well...the dual SIM which is hugely popular here. The other thing is that CDMA phones here have SIM cards, this was the first time I'd seen this ability live in a hand set. The 4 inch device is running Android 2.3 platform (Gingerbread) on its HD display, no other detailed specs were given as Motorola is pushing the concept of the phone rather then the specs at the moment. There is no word on what day this smartphone will be hitting the streets or at what price point, but we imagine its going to be competitive for this market
