this instrumental features Otto Cleverly. Short bio taken off the official Cleverley's Website: "Otto Cleverly is our Uncle Bunyon's boy, our cousin. Born in 19 and 68 in Fifty-Six, Arkansas, he helped run his daddy's barbeque stand Bunyan's Meat. When Uncle Bunyon passed on he left the stand to Otto. "Otto's Meat" was as big as his daddy's. People came from miles around just to get a piece of Otto's Meat. You know, you cain't beat Otto's meat. Like us he grew up playin'. He did give it up for a while when he moved to Alaska, got a job on a boat and caught the crabs. Now he's back home, smokin' meat and playin' fiddle and mandolin with the Trio."

Notes From The Program: The Six Trio Sonatas, written for his eldest son Wilhelm Friedmann Bach are said to be 'the crown of an organist's achievment', and I do venture out onto the faster movements from time to time. However, this particualr movment 'at a walking pace' is very pretty and cleverly worked out. There is one part in each hand, each equal in importance with the other, with the Pedals supplying the Bass. Please Show Your Appreciation For Peter And Leave A Nice Comment And Rating. Louis Spohr - Piano Trio No. 2 in F Major Op. 123 (1842)

Piano Trio No. 2 by Louis Spohr. Performed by the Hartley Piano Trio. I. Allegro Moderato - 00:00 II. Larghetto - 12:49 III. Scherzo - 21:51 IV. Finale - Vivace - 26:38 The Piano Trio No. 2 in F major, Op.123, which dates from April, 1842, is Spohr's grandest work in the form, being laid out on the largest scale. His intentions are signalled by the powerful opening while the second subject offers another example of imaginative scoring. The slow movement is one of the most remarkable creations in all Spohr, demonstrating to the full the unique sonorities the composer is able to draw from his ensemble. The tension is screwed tight until the thirteenth bar when the violin, silent till then, steals in as a consolatory middle voice. Later comes a dramatic outburst which the strings attempt to pacify with a version of the main theme. The Scherzo is both catchy and slightly grotesque, being followed by a perky Trio which Spohr cleverly integrates into the Scherzo repeat. The finale opens in the minor with a "travelling" theme while the second subject is one of those inspirations which" fall from heaven" .The final homecoming is decisive - "Spohr has not appeared so young and hearty for a long time" as one reviewer put it.
Neil Cowley Trio - Captain Backfire

Loud, Louder, Stop, Cake records 2009 Neil Cowley - piano; Richard Sadler - double bass; Evan Jenkins - drums. This is the follow-up to Displaced, British pianist Neil Cowley's 2006 debut disc. It exudes a strong sense of the trio having strengthened a particular style, even if this involves a grafting of traits enjoyed by est and The Bad Plus. The latter's anthemic tendencies gush all over His Nibs, providing this album opener with a sturdy, nay bullying, illustration of power trio potentiality. Like many others who are having their jazz cake and eating it, Cowley is cleverly laying his classicist moves over a driving rock beat, with drummer Evan Jenkins forever threatening a fully metronomic conversion. He's always slyly funking up, besides adding enough fidgety syncopation content, so that the hardcore beatniks don't become too alienated. It's a successful approach, as pedantic music critics are the only folks who will nowadays still insist on all of this compartmentalising for rock, jazz, funk et al. Josef Rheinberger - String Quartet No. 1 in C Minor Op. 89 (1876)

String Quartet No. 1 by Josef Rheinberger. Performed by the Camerata Quartett. I. Allegro Non Troppo - 00:00 II. Adagio Espressivo - 12:08 III. Scherzo - Non Troppo Vivo - 21:07 IV. Finale - Allegretto - 28:53 The String Quartet No.1 dates from 1876. It is clear from the first notes of the huge, opening Allegro non troppo that this is a quartet which cannot be simply linked to the Viennese Classicists as part of their direct lineage. The style is quite individualistic with the music being dominated by the rhythm. At first there is a hint of mystery but then the music is almost transformed into an exotic oriental dance. The surprising tempo creates an unusual slackness. A very fine Adagio expressivo follows. The opening theme is hymn-like and is elegiac. In the middle we find a brief intermezzo followed by a romantic duet between the viola and 1st violin. The slinky opening theme to the Scherzo non troppo vivo begins in unison. It bounces along in a genial fashion with the theme thrown back and forth between the voices quite cleverly. The trio is a muscular affair which provides a good contrast to the main section. The viola introduces the rhythmically syncopated and restless opening theme to the finale, Allegretto. Again, rhythm rather than melody dominates and the forward motion is very convincing.
Johann II, Josef and Eduard Strauss - Trifolien-Walzer

On 1 November 1864 the 21-year-old 'Pretender' to the Waltz King's throne, Carl Michael Ziehrer (1843-1922), conducted the first performance of his waltz Tanz-Brüder (Dancing Brothers, op. 28) at a concert in Vienna's Dianabad-Saal. Ziehrer's publisher, Carl Haslinger - who was formerly the Strauss brothers' publisher before an altercation separated the parties - duly announced the piano edition of the work a month later, on 3 December 1864. Is it conceivable that the title of Ziehrer's waltz sparked an idea in the inventive mind of the ever-resourceful Johann Strauss, resulting in the startling announcement which appeared in the Neue Freie Presse on 19 December 1864: "The Strauss brothers are composing a 'Trifolien-Walzer' for the 'Hesperus Ball' on 13 February [1865] in the Dianasaal"? All three Strauss brothers were members of the Vienna Artists' Association, 'Hesperlis', and although Johann and Josef had each separately contributed music to previous 'Hesperus' festivities, Trifolien marked the very first occasion on which Johann, Josef and Eduard had collaborated on a single work. On 15 February 1865, two days after the 'Hesperus Ball', the Fremden-Blatt remarked that the new Strauss waltz had received "lively applause" at its première, the conducting of which had fallen to the youngest brother, Eduard, at the head of the Strauss Orchestra. The first public performance of the Trifolien Walzer followed on Sunday 19 February 1865, when the Strauss Orchestra played it at <b>...</b>

The Guardian - "Es Devlin's clever set, constructed from piles of boxes, cupboards, TV screens and doors, gives the dancers plenty of levels to move on, and, better still, functions as a three-dimensional screen on which the lighting and video team can project their most astonishing effects. McCoy Tyner - Celestial Chant [Trident] 1975

Musicians: McCoy Tyner - Celestial Chant [Trident] 1975 McCoy Tyner (piano, harpsichord, cello), Ron Carter (bass), Elvin Jones (drums). Composed by McCoy Tyner. In 1975, 10 years after his tenure with John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner was at the height of his solo career. "Trident," a big, confident album recorded with Ron Carter and Elvin Jones, sounds triumphant. This is a trio that sounds larger than the sum of its parts. Starting a McCoy Tyner album with a harpsichord ("Celestial Chant") is a brilliant idea. Jones and Tyner conjure up Coltrane's spirit by combining spaciousness with yearning flurries. Jones's ever-changing ride cymbal meshes perfectly with Tyner's left hand, while the latter's right hand evokes Coltrane's "sheets of sound." Carlos Jobim's "Once I Loved" is heralded by celeste, the richness of the melody a perfect foil for Tyner's urgent approach. And Jones's cymbal work is, again, wonderful--airy, unpredictable, and magical. TRIDENT is cleverly constructed; there is plenty of contrast, and the overall impression is one of three dynamic masters at the top of their game. Recorded in February 1975.
