Gnarls Barkley Crazy Theremin Jam

Please visit me on the web at: randygeorgemusic.com This video is an experiment to see how rapidly the theremin can be injected into the world's collective consciousness. It's amazing that not everyone knows what a theremin is. It was one of the first electronic musical instruments ever made and it was invented in 1919. Are Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley really theremin players? There's only one way to find out! some notes The main theremin was passed through iZotope Trash, an awesome software guitar effects plugin. The video was edited entirely in Adobe After Effects. The hand on the carpet was to simulate wind noise, definitely cause for confusion. This also means all the parts of the song were performed with hands only. CRAZY! Randy George - Moog Etherwave Pro Theremin, Moog Etherwave Theremin, Minimoog Voyager, carpet KD - Akai MPC drum machine OG - background vocals on keyboard Elliot - Fender Bass VI This video performance is dedicated to the pioneers, Leon Theremin and Bob Moog, who devoted their lives to music in the electronic medium. Without them the music world would not be what it is today. If you enjoyed this, please subscribe! It can only get better from this point forward. Randy George - Moog Etherwave Pro Theremin

THEREMIN - Over The Rainbow

This song was written by Harold Arlen for the 1939 MGM classic THE WIZARD OF OZ. It is widely believed to be the most loved and enduring popular song of the 20th century. It is played here on the 1929 RCA theremin that once belonged to the late Hollywood thereminist, Dr. Samuel Hoffman.

"Theremin Hero" First ever attempt - The Portal song (Still Alive) on Theremin.

If you dont know what a Theremin is, wikipedia it! A simple concept - hard to believe no-one has tried this until now. Take any singing game (eg Rock band) and "mod" the microphone - bury it into headphones which are playing only the Theremin output quite loud - but not loud enough to distort the sound. Choose your song and go for it! I chose The Portal song "Still Alive" by GLADoS. Its not often possible to bring three things I love together; Portal, Rock Band and Theremin. Today it was, and it was ALOT of fun. I'm playing a Moog Etherwave Standard - with a few mistakes. Mainly because I wasnt taking this too seriously. If it catches on I'll try for a 100% Full Combo, and some more difficult songs. Remember to check out my other vidoes, and subscribe to see my future "Theremin Hero" attempts. Enjoy! - Greig

Theremin controlled Mario

Well, it had to be done! Who needs a Natal when you've got a theremin! (OK, its not quite the same, but anyway...) www.thereminhero.com This is even more fun with two people playing! One person controls left the other controls jump. Its not just limited to the theremin. Its even possible to hook up a microphone and use your voice to control the game! Or a guitar! Or a violin! Heres how it works: The sound from the theremin is split into its frequency and amplitude components in real time, which are then mapped to values in a linear scale representing the X and Y axis. Pitch becomes horizontal control, and Volume becomes vertical control. The X and Y scales are then cut up into different zones. In this case, Left; Right and dead zones for the horizontal, and a single trigger and dead zone for the vertical. The trigger zones are then mapped onto a virtual joystick hooked into an emulator. The end result is a fairly usable input control for playing games like mario. The bars give the much needed visual feedback as to how "in tune" you are, so you have a better feel of where the trigger points are.

Contact: info[at]servi.de The theremin is one of the most fascinating musical instruments of our times. It was invented in 1919 by the Russian Lew Sergejewitsch Termen (later known as Leon Theremin), a trained physicist and ambitious cello player. For many inventors, Lew Termen's creation was a starting point for experiments with the unlimited possibilities of electronic sound generation. His theremin, also known in popular language as the etherwave violin, nevertheless represents even today something unique among musical instruments: it is played without touching it. Electric fields radiated by the instrument are influenced through movements of both arms and hands. In this way, the pitch and volume of the instrument can be controlled. Through every gesture, through the smallest movements of the body, the musician has the possibility of creating melodies and of shaping <b>...</b>

Theremin Hero Air Guitar

PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION Theremin Hero Air Guitar is a project created to explore the possibility of using a theremin as an input controller for Guitar Hero. And the result is... YES! YOU CAN! AND ITS FUN!!! Links: www.thereminhero.com - My website http - Jak's website Below is an FAQ for this project, I will add to this as and when necessary. Q: What is a Theremin? A: (from wikipedia) "A theremin is an early electronic musical instrument controlled without contact from the player. It is named after its Russian inventor, Professor Léon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928. The controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which sense the position of the player's hands and control oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (volume) with the other." Search youtube for theremin to hear what it really sounds like and see how it is normally played (or check out some of my other videos, Zelda for example). Q: How does this work? A: The (highly) simplified version.. The sound from the theremin (or voltage output if available) is recorded live and captured by the software. The software then splits out the frequency and amplitude values and maps these to a virtual joystick, which has different 'hit areas' corresponding to the different buttons on a controller. The button presses are then fed into the game running on the same computer. Q: I want a Theremin, where can I buy one like yours? A: Contact your local Moog distributer. I have both an <b>...</b>

Introducing the Moog Polyphonic Theremin

Introduced in 1928, the Theremin is one of the earliest and most widely known electronic instruments. Played artists that manipulate invisible energy fields around antennas which control the pitch and volume of the sound, Theremin music has distinguished hit records from such diverse artists as The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, Clara Rockmore and Linkin Park. Today (April 1st), Moog Music designers carrying on the legacy of visionary founder, Robert Moog have announced the first major technical Theremin design advance in over 40 years. The PolyTheremin™ incorporates bleeding edge IsoDirectional Inductive Oscillator Technology, to isolate space around five individual pitch antennas thus enabling each to be played simultaneously (finger-by-finger) without interference from its companion antennas. This revolutionary concept breaks the long held belief that the Theremin could only be monophonic instrument. The PolyTheremin ships with Dorit Chrysler's instructional video "Playing the PolyTheremin is Even Easier Than Playing a Monophonic Theremin." Drawdio: Turn Almost Anything Into a Theremin

Imagine you could draw musical instruments on normal paper with any pencil (cheap circuit thumb-tacked on) and then play them with your finger. The Drawdio circuit-craft lets you MacGuyver your everyday objects into musical instruments: paintbrushes, macaroni, trees, grandpa, even the kitchen sink... One day I bought a "harmonium" kit at the street market in Bangalore. I hacksawed the keyboard off to make the first ever Drawdio circuit. We played with it at a local school in the slums using plants, water, our foreheads, etc. My friend told me graphite would work too. Meditating on it, I realized the Drawdio circuit should be literally attached to a pencil to "draw audio," and that's where the name came from: Draw + Audio. DIY: Make it. Remix it. Play it. Of course, nobody ever sees Celia's performances on the recordings, but what makes it interesting is that the Theremin is played without being touched!

Midsomer Murders theme tune on theremin

I was bored over the May bank holiday weekend, so decided to dictate the Midsomer Murders theme tune by Jim Parker, sequence the instrumental parts, then learn and record the theremin part -- as one tends to do when they're at a loose end. My theremin playing is pretty dire (having never tried to play the instrument properly before today), and my "technique" leaves a lot to be desired; in fact, it looks downright dodgy! My intonation isn't much better either...

Theremin And Electric Kantele

I call this composition LEMMINKAINEN'S DREAM. Lemminkainen was one of the heroes in the Finnish national epic known as the KALEVALA. The writer of The Lord Of The Rings, JRR Tolkien, based much of his vision of Middle Earth on ideas and images from the Kalevala which he had read as a teenager. He liked it so much he actually learned Finnish in order to read the book in its native language, and later went on to invent a language entirely of his own (the language of the Elves called "Quenya") which was based on Finnish. The kantele (pronounced "kan - teh - leh") is the national instrument of Finland and belongs to the family of instruments known as "psalteries". The one you see in this video is a 38 string, steel strung, electric kantele. It's magnetic pickups (which are eight inches long) were custom made by Jason Lollar for Bart Hopkin of Experimental Musical Instruments. If you are curious about them, visit Bart's website, windworld.com. The kantele is an extremely resonant instrument and larger "concert" models are provided with a damper consisting of a thick felt strip similar to what you might find on a piano, in order to mute the strings. I left the damper box open in the middle part of this video so you could see what it looks like. These electroacoustic kanteles bear little resemblance to the traditional 5 and 10 string folk instruments but they open up all sorts of doors for modern musicians. The high tension and steel strings on the instrument in this video allow <b>...</b>
