On July 26, 2011, Anders Breivik killed 93 people in Norway hoping to trigger a rebellion against the multiculturalism he believed was destroying Europe's heritage. The murder of innocent people - children, men, and women, to purify a nation is a ghostly rebirth of bigotry in its most malignant form. The aging generation that witnessed Hitler's solution to the "Jewish problem" is nearly gone. However, we must never forget how dangerous the insanity of bigotry actually is. The human race is made up of one group of people with many skin colors, diverse religious preferences, and numerous political beliefs. There is only room for one race on this planet - the human race. See lyrics translated into English below. Soprano Renee Fleming sings this aria. Dvorak's composition relies upon expansive arpeggiated chords to capture the fairy tale ambiance of Rusalka. The amicable old Spirit of the Lake, Jezibab, is enjoying the singing of the Wood Nymphs, when his daughter, Rusalka, sadly approaches him. She admits that she has fallen in love with a handsome prince. Yearning to know the bliss of union with him, she wishes to become human. Deeply saddened, the Spirit of the Lake consents to her request, and leaves. All alone, Rusalka sings this magnificent aria and shares the secrets of her longing to the moon. Featuring the paintings and artwork of William Bouguereau, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, JW Waterhouse, Armand Guillaumin, and Spadecaller. Tell him, oh tell him, my silver moon, Mine are the arms that shall hold him, That between waking and sleeping he may Think of the love that enfolds him, May between waking and sleeping Think of the love that enfolds him. The Ghost of My Brother Lost By Spadecaller From the tree the last apple Fell to earth alone Spoiled by summers touch Yellow-scarred, burned with rust. Wasting in the barley grass In the froth of golden hops Hides a bitter soul, The ghost of my brother lost. How loved he was! Will he ever know? For envy casts fond memories off Into stormy seas green with greed Like old whiskey bottles bobbing blind. In the shadows of his fathers tomb He pillaged his brothers birthright share And now upon stiffened knees he stands aloft A barren tree in a field of forgotten love. In the mountains of Kentucky in 1931, the coal miners of Harlan County went on strike. Officers hired by the mining company roamed the countryside hunting for the union leaders. The independent coal miners fought back gallantly against the hired company deputies and blood was spilled on both sides. "Which Side Are You On," was written by Florence Reece, the wife of Sam Reece, a union leader who had escaped into the Kentucky mountains for safety. Class warfare continues in the United States and in most nations throughout the world. Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, and Millard Lampell of the Almanac Singers made this song famous in 1941. - Spadecaller

Throughout his career, Woody Guthrie experimented with various lyrical and musical styles. However, his best work invariably came from writing and singing about the causes and the people that he felt closest to: the workers, the unions, the poor dust bowl farmers, the downtrodden, and the oppressed. The album, Hard Travelin' includes this song, "Two Good Men" --about Sacco and Vanzetti, two immigrants executed for murder after an indictment and a trial that was inspired by politics and greed. The story of Sacco and Vanzetti still carries an ominous message. For those Americans concerned about the erosion of workers rights, the suspension of Habeas Corpus, the abandonment of the Geneva Conventions, unwarranted surveillance, and the imprisonment of alleged criminals without the right to a fair and speedy trial, the story of Sacco and Vanzetti should remain an ever-present reminder of our perilous times. -- Spadecaller

On July 26, 1956, the House of Representatives voted 373 to 9 to cite Pete Seeger and seven others (including playwright Arthur Miller) for contempt, as they failed to cooperate with House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in their attempts to investigate alleged subversives and communists. Pete Seeger testified before the HUAC in 1955. In one of Pete's darkest moments, when his personal freedom, his career, and his safety were in jeopardy, a flash of inspiration ignited this song. The song was stirred by a passage from Mikhail Sholokhov's novel "And Quie Flows the Don". Around the world the song traveled and in 1962 at a UNICEF concert in Germany, Marlene Dietrich, Academy Award-nominated German-born American actress, first performed the song in French, as "Qui peut dire ou vont les fleurs?" Shortly after she sang it in German. The song's impact in Germany just after WWII was shattering. It's universal message, "let there be peace in the world" did not get lost in its translation. To the contrary, the combination of the language, the setting, and the great lyrics has had a profound effect on people all around the world. May it have the same effect today and bring renewed awareness to all that hear it.

English translation provided below. This song, performed by Mary Black, is an Irish tribute to the "Great Pretender", Bonnie Prince Charlie, the descendant of Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots who had sought to sit on the throne of Britian. To put an end to religious persecution in Scotland, occupied Ireland, Wales, and England his loyal followers of the Jacobite movement fought for him to take possession of the crown. The Jacobite rebellion (1745) was put down and hundreds of thousands died in battle under unsurmountable odds. Under secrecy, the prince fled to the continent and died in exile. "Mo Ghile Mear" was written by Seán Clárach Mac Dhomhnaill (c. 1691-1757). This Spadecaller video dramatizes the Gaelic lyrics with the paintings of D'Arcy Bacon, Caravaggio, Mary Cassatt, Gustave Courbet, Julien Dupre, Winslow Homer, and JMW Turner. Every day I am constantly sad Weeping bitterly and shedding tears Because our lively lad has left us And no news from him is heard alas. The cuckoo sings not pleasantly at noon And the sound of hounds is not heard in nut-filled woods, Nor summer morning in misty glen Since he went away from me, my lively boy. Chinese Workers Cry Out for Help! At Foxconn, one major manufacturer of Apple's iPhone, iMac, iPad and iPod touch, an alarming wave of suicides had finally caught the media's attention. Unfortunately, the claims date back to 2010, when 13 workers at a factory run by Apple supplier Foxconn committed suicide. All jumped to their deaths from factory rooftops after claiming that the company ran military-style production lines on which employees were forced to work overtime for low wages. Living in dorms with up to twenty four workers in each room with barred windows and then working long hours each day makes life for these young people unbearable. These conditions have virtually created labor camps run by foreign plantation owners. They are indeed, the slaves of Apple. Though Apple has been on notice for 5 years as the target of a campaign by USAS' Hong Kong partner Students and Scholars Against Corporate Misbehavior (SACOM), genuine changes have not taken place. Despite persistent efforts by SACOM to get Apple to stop the abuses at Foxconn, Apple's former CEOs Jobs and their current CEO, Tim Cook, had falsely denied the problem until recently. Since January, 13 young workers at Apple's supplier factory in Shenzhen, China have committed suicide, and just a few days ago, a young worker died from exhaustion. Why? Working 36 hours nonstop without overtime pay, earning poverty wages, facing humiliation by company managers and being denied independent union representation. While ...

He then convinced The Andrews Sisters to perform the song (recorded November 24, 1937), and it became a major hit.
