The rising road carnage on the Thika super highway is raising concern across the board. And the financier of the construction of the Thika super highway, the African development bank, has now sent a representative to the country to formulate safety strategies in liaison with the relevant authorities. The company in charge of the construction of Thika road superhighway says the project will be complete by December this year. Sinohydro corporation says it is on schedule with the 14 kilometer stretch between Muthaiga roundabout and Kenyatta University.

Elsewhere the government has extended the completion date for the expansion of the Thika superhighway by two months, citing logistical challenges of relocating various utilities along the project site. The 27billion shillings project which was started three years ago had been scheduled for completion by December this year, but is now running behind schedule due to various challenges including a steep rise in fuel prices. Half of the project has already been completed, and the balance of works is now set for completion by February next year. Denis Otieno has the details.
