Tokyo Earthquake - Mori Tower 52nd Floor (11/3/2011)

I was on the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills when the earthquake struck. You can get a sense of how much the tower was shaking from the curtains moving and the people screaming. The earthquake itself was scary, but the psychological fear of the tower collapsing etc was stronger. Well after the earthquake stopped, the building continued to sway back and forth. We ended up waiting about 1 1/2hrs for the lifts to start up again.

**PLEASE WATCH AND SPREAD! Proceeds (from Google AdSense) will go towards the victims of the earthquake and tsunami!** I was in Kinokunia bookstore in downtown Tokyo--on the 6th floor--when the quake hit, and I happened to have my video camera with me. The brunt of the quake had passed by the time I shot this. It was far more intense beforehand. I had some great footage of an aftershock when I was outside on the street afterwards...and at the end of it realized I had forgot to hit "record". Doh!

Tokyo Earthquake, viewed from the third floor of my apartment in Minami-Asagaya, Suginami-ku Tokyo. This only covers about the last half of the intense stuff, total time lasted over three minutes. The motion started off as usual with side to side jerking but finished with more of a sinking and rising feeling with some side to side motion as well. All in all it was a huge jolt of adrenaline and I'm thankful my friends here are all safe. *The siren is a useful relic from Japan's history. Used to alert people to air raids or bombing, the city now employs the system to broadcast emergency messages to citizens. It also serves to play the city's song at 5pm every night. **Media** This video may be linked to or used for broadcasting under the condition that credit be given to "Dolan O'Neill" and that you contact me of your useage. 東京都杉並区成田東5丁目rough address of where the video was taken.

Moment of Japan earthquake caught on cameras triggering 10m tsunami

Follow latest updates at twitter.com and www.facebook.com North-east Japan has been swamped by a major tsunami - and the entire Pacific region is now on alert. It was caused by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck 130 kilometres off the eastern coast - sending a reported 10-metre wall of water inland, causing widespread devastation. 32 people are confirmed dead - but that number's expected to rise. The wave has also reached Russia's Kuril islands to the north, reportedly around a metre high. In Japan, 200 people have reportedly been washed away, with several others missing in Japan's Sendai city. Tokyo's been all-but shut down - with fires and injuries widely reported there. Millions are without electricity. Norita International Airport is also closed. 20 powerful aftershocks have been recorded since the first quake, which was the strongest ever recorded in Japan - and the 6th biggest-ever. An earthquake has now been felt in Hawaii - measuring 4.5 - with tsunami waves expected within a few horus.

PressTV - "Mega Quake Could Hit Tokyo In Next 4 Years"

For the first time in six years, the Tokyo metropolitan government has revised its projection for one of four earthquake outcomes. If a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck at 6 pm in the winter, it would kill more than 9,6000 people and injure 150000. About 300000 building would be destroyed and many would burn to the ground. According to the University of Tokyo's Research Center, there is a 50 percent chance that a mega quake is going to strike Tokyo within four years. It will also have a major impact on the capital's economy. And what of the thousands of injured, sick, and infirm who won't be able to get to a hospital? Tokyo's local government is telling people and businesses how to prepare for an earthquake. But many say more needs to be done. Tokyo's government said it would revamp its disaster plans based on this latest report in September.

Earthquake in Tokyo Japan 1/1/2012

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 struck under the sea several hundred miles (kilometres) south of Japan on Sunday, shaking buildings in the capital, but officials said there was no danger of a tsunami. The quake struck near the uninhabited island of Torishima in the Pacific Ocean, about 600 kilometres (370 miles) south of Tokyo, and its epicentre was about 370 kilometres (230 miles) below the sea, the Meterological Agency said.

Hearing the Japanese Earthquake - Clip 2

This recording of the 2011 Japanese earthquake was taken near the coastline of Japan between Fukushima Daiichi (the nuclear reactor site) and Tokyo. The initial blast of sound is the 9.0 mainshock. As the earth's plates slipped dozens of meters into new positions, aftershocks occurred. They are indicated by "pop" noises immediately following the mainshock sound. These plate adjustments will likely continue for years. Georgia Tech Associate Professor Zhigang Peng has converted the seismic waves from last year's earthquakes into audio files. The results allow experts and general audiences to "hear" what the quake sounded like as it moved through the earth and around the globe. For more audio clips, visit www.gatech.edu

Life in Tokyo After Earthquake

This is not a car video, sorry if you were expecting. - But I wanted to tell everyone watching my channel that I am safe in Tokyo, Japan. Thanks to everyone who sent me messages of encouragement! Since after the earthquake, although there has been some new things I need to worry about in my daily life, such as the reliability and punctuality of transportation methods (especially trains) deriving to an electric shortage caused by the damages to the nuclear power plant, there isn't a huge difference from before - everything has just become a bit inconvenient, at a level I can bear. I not only read/watch what the media in Japan says, but also some of the prestigious media abroad everyday. And from what I read on media abroad, I feel their broadcast on situation of Tokyo is not always real... most of the time it is exaggerating. So I had filmed what the city looks like, and how people are reacting as of today, Thursday March 17, 2011. The news of the day was that, the demand of electricity was expected to go over the supply level, so the electricity company had alerted that a huge blackout might occur in the evening. So everyone started to do what they could do to save electricity - Offices and stores turned off every electric advertisement signs, close their store earlier so they can turn off all of the electricity-consuming facilities and products. Number of trains were reduced to approximately half of the regular basis. Of course these acts caused a small confusion as you ...

Evacuating Narita Airport Tokyo Japan after the Earthquake 3-11-2011

I just combined some short segments of our evacuation from Narita Airport after the big earthquake. It was approximately 15 minutes before we were asked to exit the building through gate 70. Notice how Japan Airlines (JAL) flight attendants were still trying to accomodate everyone by handing out candy and blankets. They also handed out free bottles of water and whatever food they had on the planes once we were back inside the building. All flights were cancelled and we were confined to Gate 70 until the following day. Japan Airlines is the best!

8.9-magnitude quake triggers devastating Japan tsunami... TOKYO — A magnitude 8.9 earthquake slammed Japan's northeastern coast Friday, unleashing a 13-foot tsunami that swept boats, cars, buildings and tons of debris miles inland. Fires triggered by the quake burned out of control up and down the coast. At least five people were killed and there were reports of several injuries in Tokyo, hundreds of miles away, where buildings shook violently through the main quake and the wave of massive aftershocks that followed.
