Top 10 Trad Kung Fu Fights; Shaolin Temple 2 Part 1 No.9
A great fight from some of the greatest wushu players of all time. This first part mainly shows of Cheng-Hui Yu's terrific Wudong sword (which is a good example of what Wuxia is like but without wires). Then Jet comes to help with his Shaolin pole. At the end of Part 1 Yu Hai and Ji Chun Hua pit it out. Like Shaoin Temple 1 this lacks the sophistication of its Hong Kong counterparts in terms of choreography and editing, but old-style wushu like this is so hard to come by that nobody really cares. Yuen Biao vs. Frankie Chan in the finale to the wonderful Wing Chun inspired film. Without a doubt Yuen Biao's best work as a leading man. The stunning choreography is the brainchild of Sammo Hung and his team. This is one of those films where I can't pick the best fight scene, so I just chose the final fight. I give it 5/5. Top 10 Trad Kung Fu Fights; The Odd Couple No.5
Described as the greatest weapons movie ever, we see Sammo Hung and Lau Kar Wing at the height of their physical powers. Lau Kar Wing directed this 1979 movie but a joint hand was shared in the choreography between both Lau's team and Sammo's team, and the film is superior for it. Rarely have the dao and qiang been shown so beautifully on screen. Another great selling point of this fight is the contrast between Sammo's Northern style and Lau's Southern style.
