A two days symposium was held on the Life and Works of Mohammad Asad, (The great 20th century Scholar, Journalist, Traveler, Writer, Social Critic, Linguist, Thinker, Reformer, Diplomat, Political Theorist, and Translator) at King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies (KFCRIS), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 11-12th of April, 2011. He spoke on "Mohammad Asad — A gift of Europe to Islam". Hofmann said: "It was astonishing to find that quite a number of extraordinary Europeans in the 20th century had discovered and embraced Islam. I am referring to Marmaduke Pickthal (1875-1936), a British novelist, whose succinct translation of the Qur'an into English, the Meaning of the Glorious Koran (1930), is still highly appreciated." He went on to include Frenchman Rene Guenon, alias Abdel Wahid Yahia (1886-1951), and Frithof Schuon (1907-2005) in the list. First Spaceship on Venus: Yoko Tani, Günther Simon, Lucyna Winnicka (1962 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org First Spaceship on Venus, German: Der schweigende Stern (en: The Silent Star), Polish: Milcząca Gwiazda, is a 1960 East German/Polish film directed by Kurt Maetzig and based on the novel The Astronauts by Stanisław Lem. The film is also known as Planet of the Dead, Silent Star and Spaceship Venus Does Not Reply A much shortened 1962 Crown International Pictures English dubbed release in the USA used the name First Spaceship on Venus where it was double billed with Varan the Unbelievable. Lem disowned the movie.[citation needed] First Spaceship on Venus was featured in episodes of both Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Cinema Insomnia. The film begins in 1985, when engineers involved in an industrial project to irrigate the Gobi Desert accidentally unearth a mysterious and apparently artificial "spool." When found to be made of a material unknown on Earth, the spool is circumstantially linked to the Tunguska explosion of 1908. The "spool" is seized on as evidence that the explosion, originally blamed on a meteor, was actually caused by a spaceship. Professor Harringway deduces the alien craft must have come from {[Venus]]. The spool itself is determined to be a flight recorder, and partially decoded by an international team of scientists led by Professor Sikarna and Dr. Tchen Yu. When radio greetings sent to Venus go unanswered, Harringway announces that a journey to Venus is Earth's only alternative. The recently-completed Cosmokrator ...

Uruguayan People (Faces of Uruguay)

Uruguayan people or Uruguayans (Uruguayos in Spanish) are the citizens of Uruguay, or its descendants abroad. Uruguay is a multiethnic society, which means that it is home to people of many different ethnical backgrounds. Uruguay is, along with other areas of new settlement like Canada, Australia or the United States, a melting pot of different peoples. Uruguay has one of the most homogeneous populations in South America with the most common ethnic groups are Italian and Spaniard, especially Galicians, Castilians and Basques. Uruguayans share a Spanish linguistic and cultural background with its neighbour country Argentina. Also, like Argentina, most Uruguayans are descended from colonial-era settlers and immigrants from Europe with almost 88% of the population being of European descent.[5] The majority of these are Spaniards and Italians, followed by the French people, Basques, Germans, Portuguese, British (English or Scots), Armenians, Irish, Swiss, Russians, Poles, Croats, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians, Scandinavians, Dutch, Austrians, Greeks, Turkish, Arab mainly Lebanese people and Syrians, and smaller number of Georgians. There are also smaller numbers of Han Chinese and Japanese people. The majority of Poles, Russians, Germans and Austrians were and are Ashkenazi Jews so they can be seen as a single ethnic group. Montevideo, like Buenos Aires of nearby Argentina and Rio de Janiero in Brazil, was a major seaport to dock ships ...

Painted Cave

www.ceepackaging.com http www.youtube.com Painted Cave is located above Santa Barbara and refers to a painted cave which may once have been a sacred location. The cave paintings were made over 300 years ago by the people belonging to the Chumash group. The Chumash people thrived at a very early period in California prehistory with some settlements dating to at least 10000 years before present, and evidencing sophisticated culture and technology . The Chumash were hunter-gatherers and were adept at fishing. They are one of the relatively few New World peoples who regularly navigated the ocean (another was the Tongva, a neighboring tribe located to the south). Some settlements built plank boats called tomols, which facilitated the distribution of goods and could even be used for whaling. Anthropologists eagerly sought Chumash baskets as prime examples of the craft, and two of the finest collections are at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and the Musée de lHomme (Museum of Mankind) in Paris, France. The Museum of Natural History at Santa Barbara is believed to have the largest collection of Chumash baskets. Several related Chumashan languages were spoken. There are no longer any living native speakers, although they are well documented in the unpublished fieldnotes of linguist John Peabody Harrington. Especially well documented are the Barbareño, Ineseño, and Ventureño dialects. Several Chumash families are working to revitalize the language. The Chumash of the ...

Part 03 - Esperanto is a language used in many ways.

By simplifying somewhat we can divide Esperanto speakers into different categories: * "the idealists" -believe in Esperanto as an aid for future world peace *"the hedonists"- who enjoy the international festivals and meetings *"the language nerds" who given the chance will always talk about other languages *"the activists"-who like to organize seminars, training sessions, internet sites etc. *"the family focused"- who use Esperanto in their international families. Of course many people belong to several of these categories. Which category do you find most appealing?
Nový Jičín

www.ceepackaging.com http www.youtube.com On 18 May I travelled from Kraków to Brno in the Czech Republic. En route I stopped off at Novy and Stary Jicin in Moravia. Here we see Novy Jicin, a wonderful town of 26000 people with a fantastic town square. Once you step into the town, its atmosphere can be felt: everything is trimmed in a harmonious orderThese are the words of an early 19th century visitor, and since his time nothing has changed. The town really has an old, cosy atmosphere reflecting evident peace. Most of the landmarks are situated in the centre of the town, which was declared a protected cultural area in 1967. In the middle of this area, there is a uniquely symmetrical square with many historical houses, arcades on all four sides of the square, and the Zerotin Castle nearby. The castle is a registered office of the towns museum with a permanent exhibition of hats that are manufactured in the town. An old legend says that the town was founded by a woman, a daughter of the owner of the nearby castle Stary Jicin. Poorly-founded linguistic ideas assumed that the proud noble seat was called Jitcins castle and belonged to Bretislav, Jitkas husband and the first Moravian Knight. The reality is significantly different: Jicin refers to the wildness, or rather to the Slovenian word for boars, and thick and inaccessible woods. That is why the nearby hill is called Svinec Boars Place. Its location in the landscape is another noticeable characteristic of the town. The ...

Noam Chomsky: Manufacturing Consent (1992) (abridged version)

www.necessaryillusions.ca en.wikipedia.org www.chomsky.info www.chomsky.info www.pdxjustice.org Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992) is a documentary film that explores the political life and ideas of Noam Chomsky, a linguist, intellectual, and political activist. Created by two Canadian filmmakers, Mark Achbar and Peter Wintonick, it expands on the ideas of Chomsky's earlier book, Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media, which he co-wrote with Edward S. Herman. The film presents and illustrates Chomsky's and Herman's thesis that corporate media, as profit-driven institutions, tend to serve and further the agendas of the interests of dominant, elite groups in the society. A centerpiece of the film is a long examination of the history of The New York Times' coverage of the Indonesian occupation of East Timor, which Chomsky says exemplifies the media's unwillingness to criticize an ally of the elite.
