Lyrics: This morning I woke up alone. Felt like a stranger in my own bed. I turned on the bedside light. It's darker outside, than it is in my heart. My head is filling with regrets, Hastily made choices and voices of friends. Who turn up, offer their advice. Say, "Yeah, she was nice, but she's not" Not what? "Not the one". Not the one, not the. I can't begin to explain just where the love goes. It makes me give up. Oh it makes me give up. I'm not a trier. Yesterday I forgot to eat, trying to keep myself occupied. I took stock of the memories that I'd like to keep. In a photograph, that blisters in the heat of the fire. On the mantelpiece of a house going up in flames. Yeah we're stuck inside. You won't leave 'til I've explained why you're Not the one. Look for excuses, to ask if we can be friends. I confess I'm useless. You're not the one. You're not the one.. Lars von Trier banned from Cannes over Nazi, Hitler shock remarks

Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier was condemned and declared "persona non grata" on Thursday by the Cannes Film Festival for saying that he sympathizes with Adolf Hitler. A statement from Cannes organizers castigated von Trier for his comments a day earlier. It is an unprecedented move by the festival that bestowed its highest honour on the director's film "Dancer in the Dark" back in 2000. Christine Aime, who heads the festival press office, said von Trier's current film, "Melancholia," remains in competition but that if it wins anything at Sunday's closing ceremony, von Trier "won't be there to receive the prize." At a news conference for the film on Wednesday, von Trier said in a rambling speech that he understood and sympathised with Hitler. RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com RT on Twitter: twitter.com

'I'm not Nazi' - Lars von Trier in RT exclusive on Cannes Hitler remarks

The 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has been stirred up by perhaps the biggest scandal in its history - thanks to the director of "Antichrist", the Danish "infant terrible", Lars von Trier. It happened when the provocative director told the press conference at Cannes, in response to a question about his German roots, that "he understands Hitler and sympathises with him." During the interview arranged about 40 kilometers from Cannes, RT asked the controversial filmmaker how it all came to happen. RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com RT on Twitter: twitter.com

Trier Germany

Trier (French: Trèves; Luxembourgish: Tréier; Latin: Augusta Treverorum) is a city in Germany on the banks of the Moselle River. It is the oldest city in Germany, founded in or before 16 BC.[1] Trier is not the only city claiming to be Germany's oldest, but it is the only one that bases this assertion on having the longest history as a city, as opposed to a mere settlement or army camp. Trier lies in a valley between low vine-covered hills of ruddy sandstone in the west of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, near the German border with Luxembourg and within the important Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wine-growing region.

Von Trier stuns Cannes with Hitler comments

Danish film director Lars von Trier stunned his audience at the Cannes film festival on Wednesday by saying that he sympathized with, and understood, Adolf Hitler. "OK, I'm a Nazi," he told a news conference, which reacted with nervous laughter and surprised silence. Actress Kirsten Dunst, sitting next to Von Trier, seemed very ill at ease with the comments of the director, who has a history of provocative and controversial comments. In 1989, Von Trier discovered that his his biological father was a German, Fritz Michael Hartmann. Von Trier, who is presenting his new film 'Melancholia' at the Cannes film festival, also said that Israel was 'a pain in the ass'. Duration: 00:30.

The Cannes board of directors declared the Danish director, formerly a festival favourite as much for his outspoken persona as his taboo-breaking films, "persona non grata, with effect immediately" following a bizarre performance in front of the media on Wednesday when he declared he had sympathy for Adolf Hitler. "Cannes provides artists with an exceptional forum to present their works and defend freedom of expression and creation," the board said in a statement. "We profoundly regret[s] that this forum has been used by Lars von Trier to express comments that are unacceptable, intolerable, and contrary to the ideals of humanity and generosity that preside over the very existence of the festival." Von Trier's offending words came in response to a question about his German roots. Seemingly joking, Von Trier announced himself to be a Nazi, after expressing sadness that he hadn't ...

Lars von Trier, that great maestro of facetious event cinema, is back with another instrument of torture. It's a disaster movie A "beautiful film about the end of the world": All rights reserved. I do not own this video, just cut the best part, The best of the film - the brief opening act: a weird, hallucinatory montage of moonlit or Melancholia-lit images, which are an exposition of themes and distorted premonition of narrative. there's a mawkish fascination and some flashes of real visual brilliance, especially in the mysterious series of dream-tableaux that begin the film.

Germany Pt 12: Trier's Porta Nigra

The Porta Nigra (Latin for black gate) is a large Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It is today the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps and has been designated a World Heritage Site. The name Porta Nigra originated in the Middle Ages due to the darkened color of its stone; the original Roman name has not been preserved. Locals commonly refer to the Porta Nigra simply as Porta. The Porta Nigra was built in grey sandstone between 180 and 200 AD. The original gate consisted of two four-storied towers, projecting as near semi-circles on the outer side. A narrow courtyard separated the two gate openings on either side. For unknown reasons, however, the construction of the gate remained unfinished. For example, the stones at the northern (outer) side of the gate were never abraded, and the protruding stones would have made it impossible to install movable gates. Nonetheless, the gate was used for several centuries until the end of the Roman era in Trier. In Roman times, the Porta Nigra was part of a system of four city gates, one of which stood at each side of the roughly rectangular Roman city. The Porta Nigra guarded the northern entry to the Roman city, while the Porta Alba (White Gate) was built in the east, the Porta Media (Middle Gate) in the south, and the Porta Inclyta (Famous Gate) in the west, next to the Roman Bridge crossing the Moselle River. The gates stood at the ends of the two main streets of the Roman Trier, one of which led north-south and the other ...

Lars von Trier -- Being all nazi!

At first I was shocked, now I laugh my ass off every time I watch this clip. It's genius. This man knows how to become popular -- just by being himself in a provocative way. And yes, Israel IS a pain in the ass, in my own personal opinion. Kirsten is cute by the way, sitting there not knowing whether or how to react. And I like how Stellan Skarsgård is just smiling kindly while Lars is reaching for his approval. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the clip of the year. ♥

Oldest German town - Trier

Trier is a city in Germany on the western bank of the Moselle River. It is the oldest large city in Germany, having already established a population in the tens of thousands before 100 AD. Trier lies in a valley between low vine-covered hills of ruddy sandstone in the west of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, near the German border with Luxembourg and within the important Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wine-growing region. Trier is one of several cities that each claim to be the oldest city in Germany.Trier is the seat of the Archbishopric of Trier, as well as being home to a university, a technical college, the administration of the Trier-Saarburg districtWith an approximate population of 100000, Trier was until 2005 ranked fourth alongside Kaiserslautern among the state's largest cities, after Mainz, Ludwigshafen am Rhein and Koblenz. However, the census of the 30th June 2005 registered only 99685 inhabitants. Verified sources nevertheless assert that the city of Trier is indeed of Roman origin. The Romans under Julius Caesar had first subdued the Celtic Treveri in 58 to 50 BC. In 16 BC, at the foot of the Petrisberg, upon which a military camp had been set up in 30 BC and abandoned again a few months later, the Romans founded the city of Augusta Treverorum ("City of Augustus in the land of the Treveri"). The honor of being named after the Emperor was one shared by only Augsburg and Augst in northern Switzerland. Following the reorganization of the Roman provinces in Germany in 16 BC ...

Evanston vs. New Trier: The Rivalry That Defines A Border: Nike HS Hoops Madness

Every school has a rival- rivalries are part of high school athletics- rivalries are a part of why high school sports are so great. But not every school- or really any school that I know of- has a rivalry like Evanston and New Trier. This is the kind of rivalry that makes boys into men, with games that are played with the kind of passion that makes kids want to wake up at 7 am during their summer vacation to train for those two fateful winter days. The bordering communities, located just north of the Chicago city limits, are close in proximity and yet deep down inside, their vastly different student bodies make up two distinct cultures that could not seem farther away. The games are so hotly contested year after year that the bi-annual contests had to be moved from the school gyms to Welsh Ryan Arena- where Northwestern plays their home games. As if there wasn't enough drama involved already, the teams are routinely the top two teams in the Central Suburban League Conference and they often end up playing each other in the state playoffs, as well as in the prestigious Proviso West Holiday Tournament. After Evanston got the best of New Trier for three straight years (Evanston finished 3rd in state in 08 and made it to the final 16 in 07), the Trevians got their revenge this year and it was oh-so-sweet.
