YouTube.com Twin Shadow's debut album Forget topped a lot of 2010 best-of lists (including our own), but the group's live set on our Hill Stage midday on Thursday took their music to a whole new level, as the trio's dynamic stage presence whipped the capacity crowd into a frenzy. George Lewis, Jr. and his band emanate an intense rock-star magnetism, and their sexy, intimate songs were blown up to massive proportions, without losing any of the vivid detail and personality that make this young band so special.

From disco to new wave to post-punk, this album seems to dabble in nearly every fusion of dance and rock music. It's a style of music I'm a bit of a sucker for, but I think the songwriting is too good to deny. The album's major flaw is a slightly muddy recording quality. There are also some slight musical flubs here and there. Nothing that didn't stop me from enjoying it, though. What do you think of this record? Love it? Hate it? Twin Shadow's new record "Forget" was recorded in a variety of locations using a lot of different sounds, from Moog synths, to samples off other records. The Nord Wave made it easy for Twin Shadow to map these variety of sounds to the Nord Wave's sound banks. When going on tour now all they need is to bring this one keyboard. Before they were using a Roland Juno plus a Novation Remote plus laptop. The Nord Wave has allowed Twin Shadow to streamline their set-up for playing live. Twin Shadow graced us with a Mooged out version of "Slow" from their album Forget. Twin Shadow AKA George Lewis Jr. deftly plays the Moog Guitar, utilizing the patented sustaining power to float cascading melodic lines across the soundscape. Lewis' guitar and vocals are running through the Analog Delay Moogerfooger. Keyboardist Wynne Bennett uses the Little Phatty to lay down a fat rumbling bass line throughout the song with her left hand. With her right hand she plays a Minimoog Voyager XL, which is MIDI controlling Moog's new synthesizer iPad app, Animoog enabling her to play polyphonically. Bass player Russell Manning plays the Moog Guitar, using the control pedal to sweep the cutoff of the guitar's internal ladder filter, to create a wah-like effect that adds a funky dub feel interwoven with the percussion. Michael Hutcherson plays a Minimoog Old School Voyager, layering haunting soundscapes and filter sweeps throughout the song. Drummer Andy Bauer is playing three Minimoog Voyager Rack Mounts as percussion instruments, triggering each one separately using the Trap-Kat XL drum pads. Each drum sound is a Minimoog Voyager preset that was specifically sculpted to envelop the track.
