This piece comes from the soundtrack to the 2006 film, starring Ben Whishaw and Dustin Hoffman, and based on the novel Perfume by Patrick Süskind. Set in 18th century France, the film tells the story of an olfactory genius, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) and his homicidal quest for the perfect scent. The soundtrack is by the film's German director, Tom Twyker (1965-), and has been recorded by the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle. I have used the published piano arrangment of this extract (adding slight fills to some static chords).
