U96 is a dance music project formed by the German DJ and producer Alex Christensen and a team of producers called Matiz (Ingo Hauss, Helmut Hoinkis, and Hayo Panarinfo), known for a number of 1990s Eurodance hits. The year was 1991. Alex Christensen had the idea to present Klaus Doldinger's main soundtrack-theme of one of his favourite movies 'Das Boot' (by Wolfgang Peterson) in another version, a techno-version. This extremely dynamic and powerful track with a lot of electronic sounds and underwater effects took German floor entirely while it peaked the charts in many countries: Norway, England, Denmark, Sweden, France, Holland, Belgium and Finland. Interestingly enough, this track was made to US and was released by a virtually unknown American label named 'Cohiba Records'. Das Boot was the first Platin-Maxi Single by this group, it sold at more than 500 000 copies. In the beginning of 1993 U 96 released their first album called Das Boot. Another song in this album which is worth mentioning was I Wanna Be A Kennedy. In many places it reminded a 1980 hit from Visage : Fade to Grey. It this album produced by Matiz and AC16 (the team that actually produced all the U 96 albums), as guests were performing Miss Melody, Miss Andromedaand a rapper named Satchmo. German popstar Ben performing the song "Vorbei" with Alex Christensen of the German music project U96. This track got into the German Charts in 2006 and was top ranked at the 28th place. The video was directed by Nikolaj Georgiew. The man who left his love (played by Stefanie Poljakof) to serve on the submarine is played by Vivian Frey (younger age) and Horst Westphal (older age). Songtext was written by Lukas Hilbert, who has also a short appearance in the video. The very movie-like video was implemented at historical scenes such as an original war submarine. The Deutsche Marine Museum Wilhelmshafen made this extraordinary location available. Congratulations to Georgiew photography and film team for making it. Thanks Nikolaj for your support. Commander Dönitz Doenitz Commander in Chief of the German Navy, Grand Admiral Großadmiral Karl Doenitz Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz (16 September 1891 -24 December 1980) served as the leader (Befehlshaber der Unterseeboote) of the German U-boat campaign during World War II. Großadmiral, or Grossadmiral, was the highest rank in the German Wehrmacht's Kriegsmarine (or Navy). The rank of Großadmiral was held by the first two Commanders of Kriegsmarine (Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine), Erich Raeder and Karl Dönitz. In May on 1945 when the Reich was falling apart and Dönitz succeded Hitler as Reichspresident and Führer. However, even Dönitz's replacement in the Kriegsmarine, Hans-Georg von Friedeburg, remained a Generaladmiral, one step down. Thus, the Großadmiral legacy remains with only two men in history: Raeder and Dönitz.
