Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun, and the third-largest and fourth most massive planet in the Solar System. It is named after the ancient Greek deity of the sky Uranus (Ancient Greek: Οὐρανός) the father of Cronus (Saturn) and grandfather of Zeus (Jupiter). Though it is visible to the naked eye like the five classical planets, it was never recognized as a planet by ancient observers because of its dimness and slow orbit. Sir William Herschel announced its discovery on March 13, 1781, expanding the known boundaries of the Solar System for the first time in modern history. Uranus was also the first planet discovered with a telescope. Uranus is similar in composition to Neptune, and both have different compositions from those of the larger gas giants Jupiter and Saturn. As such, astronomers sometimes place them in a separate category, the "ice giants". Uranus's atmosphere, while similar to Jupiter and Saturn's in its primary composition of hydrogen and helium, contains more "ices" such as water, ammonia and methane, along with traces of hydrocarbons. It is the coldest planetary atmosphere in the Solar System, with a minimum temperature of 49 K (224 °C). It has a complex, layered cloud structure, with water thought to make up the lowest clouds, and methane thought to make up the uppermost layer of clouds. English composer Gustav Holst composed The Planets between 1914 and 1916. The Birmingham premiere of the suite took place in 1918, fifteen years before Pluto was discovered. Though the Planets became by far the most popular work of Holst's and one of the most known pieces by an English-born composer, Holst did not consider the piece one of his finest. Partially because of this, he never wrote an eighth movement, though unexpectedly the IAU relegated Pluto from its status as planet proper in 2006.

On the 24 January 1986, the probe Voyager 2 passes through the Uranus system. The probe is carrying different detectors : magnetometers, plasma detectors, low-energy charged particles detectors, cosmic rays detectors, radiowaves receivers. Recordings were made. Interractions of the solar wind with planet's magnetosphere, magnetosphere itself, electromagnetic fields, charged particles emissions, charged particle interactions of the planet, its moons, and the solar wind. All this electromagnetic phenomenons can be transformed into electric signals, which can in turn be amplified and used to excite the membrane of a loud speaker ; thus making audible to the human ear the rustling of the cosmos. Secondly it's small and faint, barely visible to the naked eye, and even the most powerful telescopes show little more than a tiny featureless grey-green disk. Most powerful telescopes will show the five main moons of Uranus, Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon. The innermost of these Miranda, which has, if memory serves the highest cliffs in the solar system (due to being previously (presumably) smashed by an impact) and has an orbital period of about 1.5 days. That means you should be able to easily see its movement over a night. So it was that I set out with my scope on the evening of 22nd Aug 2011 to see what could be captured. I decided to head up to an observatory site that had previously seemed good up near the top of the somewhat active volcano, Lassen Peak. The site is high, almost 2 miles up, but the seeing was less than perfect (a very constant ~ 5mile an hour wind, which was probably a blessing in that it bought warmer air from somewhere, but was also a curse due to the wind chill- I was surrounded by snow fields!). Nonetheless, at prime focus of the 11in CPC1100 with ~1000 iso and 4 second exposure on a canon 60D seemed to bring out easily at least 4 of the moons of Uranus. After that, I just had to maintain the kit for 8 or so hour. A pain in the ass, as there <b>...</b>

Its orbital elements were first calculated in 1783 by Pierre-Simon Laplace. In 1845, Urbain Le Verrier began his own independent research into Uranus's orbit. Killing Floor - Out Of Uranus - from Out Of Uranus (1970) c. Bill Thorndycraft UK blues band from South London. Formed during the British "blues boom" of 1968. The original band featured singer and harp player Bill Thorndycraft, bass player Stuart (Mac) McDonald, drummer Bazz Smith and pianist Lou Martin, and was an important part of the early blues rock movement. Contemporaries included Free, Black Cat Bones, Savoy Brown, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The band worked hard on the English club and college scene including dates at London's Marquee club with The Nice and Yes, as well as appearing on all the rock radio and TV shows of the time - for example the original Johnny Walker and John Peel Shows and Alexis Korner's blues show. Killing Floor also backed Texas bluesman Freddie King on two UK tours, meeting up with Howlin' Wolf, Arthur Crudup and Otis Spann along the way, and toured extensively in Europe, appearing at the Hamburg Easter Rock Festival (pictured) in 1970. Two albums were released, "Killing Floor" in 1969 and "Out of Uranus" in 1971. Both have become prized collectors items and have been re-released several times, most recently on the Italian label "Akarma".
