The video starts few minutes after the first contact with Las Vegas approach. You will see and ear several misunderstood and bad-action-after-correct-readback which increased the tension and stress on board, alone without instructor ;-) I hope it's also a good rendering of what you can feel if you expect to fly VFR to land in Las Vegas. Slow Flight Tutorial (Part 1) - VFR (MSFS) (Airspeed Control)
Slow flight is the basic essential lesson in flying. Slow flight is the single most important thing a pilot will ever learn. This is a demonstration of a slow flight in a C-172. Although similar to the performance of the actual C-172, there are two very big drawbacks in MS FSX. The first one is the actual feel of the airplane at slow speeds. The airplane is very sluggish, and the control inputs have to be a lot smoother. You can really feel the airplane be sluggish when you fly it close to stall speeds. The second big drawback is the stall warning horn. In the MS FSX the stall warning horn starts blaring when you are actually in a stall (or very very close to it). In the actual C-172 the stall warning horn comes in at 10 knots above stall speed. Although it is very annoying, the whole slow flight practice is done with the stall warning horn blaring. The horn may not be comfortable, but the sound of the horn can aid you in adjusting the pitch and power of the Cessna. If you want to learn how to land better, you need to learn how to control the airplane better at slow speed. No amount of tutorials in ILS and GPS, or whatever other form of navigation you take a look at will help you with actual landings. The best and fastest way to improve your landings, and fly better overall will come from practicing slow flight.
