Adobe Premiere Color Correction with Vectorscope

When you don't have access to a color-calibrated monitor, the vectorscope is a crucial tool for color correction, camera matching, checking skin tones, and keeping your images legal (broadcast safe colors). This 4 minute tutorial will go through the basics of using the vectorscope to improve your images.

The Vectorscope in Premiere Pro

library.creativecow.net The vectorscope provides graphical information on the colors in your footage and is an excellent way of checking your footage to find out if it is within broadcast safe limits or if additional work needs to be done. In this Premiere Pro tutorial, Andrew Devis shows how to find the vectorscope in PP, how to interpret the information it gives and how to use regions of interest to check out specific parts of your footage to get a more detailed understanding of its chrominance levels and how any changes you make affect your footage.

DETR - Vectorscope (UK)

A cinema only ad from the pre-THINK! campaign. Featuring the first road-safety advert appearance (until the TfL motorbike advert came out, anyway) from Ewan McGregor. This is a pretty rare film, and after hunting for it for years I finally came across it on some dodgy Russian advert archive website. This was originally to only be shown in cinemas with a 15 certificate, but I'm not entirely sure why. It's pretty tame, really. But the effects are really cool.

The Vectorscope in After Effects

library.creativecow.net The vectorscope is a powerful tool to help users get a graphical representation of the chrominance values of their footage instead of just having to rely on their eyes because - as we all know - our eyes don't always tell us the whole truth when it comes to dealing with color! Because the vectorscope is somewhat hidden in AE, it is sometimes overlooked, so in this tutorial, Andrew Devis shows how to find, set-up and use the vectorscope in AE to look at whole images as well as specific regions of interest.

Why Ableton Live's instruments sound soft/dull/thin/digital?

I am investigating why it feels like soft, thin, dull, digital. In this video it is showing the vector scope of Operator and Inst rack. There are many Operator preset whose vector scope looks so artificial. In this case, the vector scope draws simple shape such as square and uniform layered cloud. Looking through several preset of them. In the last part of the video, the effect called Amp makes same kind of artificial vector scope shape. Amp is intentionally shaping the wave I think. This will be fine that you can avoid to use if you don't want, unlike the inevitable filter inside the generator.

Interesting waveform and harmonic analysis of mains power.

Waveform data and harmonic content data recorded over a 33 hour period at a residential area of central London. The time-lapse video clearly shows the diurnal cycle with greater distortion during the day, together with greater variability in the harmonic content. As is often the case, the 7th harmonic (shown here in yellow) is the most dominant, although at this address the overall harmonic content is over 10-fold higher than recordings at other sites. The waveform is also interesting, as it has a significantly distorted shape with large 'spikes' - these can spike up to 600 V, whereas the normal 240 V AC peak would be around 340 V. You can also see smaller spikes appear and disappear away from the peak, presumably, these are spikes from phase-angle control devices. Audio monitoring for mastering (watch& learn)

In this video I show how I've setup my monitoring for audio mastering. Few things you need for monitoring: 1. Vectorscope 2. Spectrum meter 3. Graphic equalizer (eg EQUO) 4. All the little dB meters on the mixer WaveCandy VST can do most of it and more. Also it consumes less processing power than everything else which is very important.. Any questions? :)

Lissajous Go Figure

Lissajous Go Figure A DIY vectorscope is constructed from two pairs of speakers and a laser light pen. The four speakers face inward into a wooden box. Opposite pairs of speakers are wired out of phase, in a push-pull configuration, one pair for the horizontal axis and the other pair for the vertical axis, with each pair connected to one channel of a stereo audio signal. A laser light pen is suspended taut with fine thread and hot glue in the center of the four inward facing speakers. As stereo audio is fed to the device the pen position is displaced by movement of the speaker cones to which it is tethered. Laser light from the pen projects an illustration of the x,y plot of the interference pattern of the two waveforms of the stereo signal. In other words, the device can be used to display Lissajous figures. The instrument used to provide the stereo audio signal is a custom built synthesizer. The unit has 6 oscillators with separate control of the sin, triangle and square-wave components. Each oscillator can be panned or used to modulate another oscillator. This installation is intended to be hands on, allowing visitors to make their own adjustments to the oscillators. Users are welcome to experiment and discover what patterns they may create with the controls. A tuner will also be provided to allow precise tuning and/or reading of the oscillators.
