The 5th graders of the Ross School perform the Rg Veda, a culmination of their studies. The Vedas, viewed as the ultimate source and authority of all religious duties, are divided into four Samhitas, or "collections," each dealing with a different aspect of ritual. Rig-Veda Yajur-veda Sama-veda Atharva-veda The Rig-veda, Rig "praise"/ Veda "knowledge", was the oldest and most important of these collections. Scholars believe it was composed between 2300 and 1200 BCE It contains hymns or devotional incantations of 10562 written lines in 10 books more than a thousand songs to the pantheon of 33 different devas, "shiny ones," or gods and goddesses. Mantras or "sacred words" were sung by priests during ritual. Like many ancient cultures, the Aryans thought of the world as divided into three levels or triloka: the earth, "mid-space" and svarga, the home of the gods and the ancestors.

VEDA - Day Four - Photobooth Regrets
A video about misusing and abusing the application on Mac computers, Photobooth. I'm use to people on YouTube taking narcissism really seriously and I agree, it's not a good thing. However, when faced with new technology at a young age, an age when you are discovering and learning about yourself, it is very easy to embrace these new tools and yes, sometimes abuse them. If I hadn't heard about YouTube when I was 17, I'm not sure I would have made videos. If I hadn't been introduced to Photobooth when I was 18, I'm not sure I would have taken so many terrible photos. It's a learning process, and I look back on it kindly. Yes, I degrade myself, but I also understand that I was just being silly or having fun or indulging and at that age, it is okay, in moderation, of course. That's all I preach, if I do look like I'm preaching here: moderation. However, there are some clever and creative people who have taken the act of taking a self-portrait and are using it as a way to reach out to people, to communicate and to have fun, and I think that anything that takes something possibly self-indulgent and makes it a way to reach out to others, is good for our Internet lives. In the Gita, Krishna said "Of the vedas I am the Sama". This veda is dearest to the Gods. While chanting this veda, soma juice is offered to the Gods. This is a melodic veda with precise intonations to create exalted and peacful vibrations in the brain. Many of the verses are rig vedic and this specific recital is as per the Kuthuma Sakha. Vedas create powerful vibrations and therefore should be chanted and listened by people who are proficient and are able to control such potent mantras. Meditate and be aware of the sound while listening to the great Vedas.
