"Television Addict" was the A-side of the debut single by The Victims, an early punk rock band from Perth, Western Australia. The song is a mainstay of compilations of Australian punk from the 1970s, and has been recorded by the Hoodoo Gurus, You Am I, The Hellacopters and Teengenerate. It was co-written by singer-guitarist Dave Faulkner (known at the time as Dave Flick) and drummer James Baker. The slow, menacing, bass line, played by Rudolph V (Dave Cardwell), is also a prominent feature of the recording. The Victims released the single independently in late 1977 or early 1978 (sources vary), with "I'm Flipped Out Over You" on the B-side. Lyrically, "Television Addict" revolves around a youth "who went out and shot someone", and whose lawyer then attributes his actions to violence on television: "blame the ratings for his crime." The song is, in large part, a satirical comment on the tendency to blame popular culture for crime, rather than individuals, or broader social problems. The song ends by questioning why other social phenomena are not attributed to TV progams: "just because I watch Dinah Shore, doesn't mean my brain has slipped, doesn't mean anything — at all." The band broke up in 1979. During the mid-1980s, Baker and Faulkner were briefly reunited in the Hoodoo Gurus, who sometimes performed "Television Addict" as an encore. The Hoodoo Gurus (without Baker) later recorded "Television Addict", and issued it as a bonus track on Crank (2005 re-issue).

Shell Shock Victim (WW1). Disturbing footage of the effects of shell shock. Filmed during World War 1, this remarkable film shows a traumatised soldier staggering and hardly able to walk however after treatment, the man is transformed and confidently walks towards the camera. Seale Hayne in Devon was a military hospital which played an incredible role in curing shell shock victims during The Great War. At the time, most shell shock victims were treated harshly and with little sympathy as their symptoms were not understood and seen as a sign of weakness. So instead of receiving proper care, many victims endured more trauma with treatments such as solitary confinement or electric shock therapy. However, one doctor called Arthur Hurst believed he could cure every shell shock victim. He took them to Seale Hayne which was deep in the Devon countryside and there he used revolutionary treatments such as hypnosis, persuasion, massage and dietary treatments to cure his patients. In fact 90% of Hurst's patients were cured in one session. Jennifer Haskell, a senior at Ball State University, died Friday, August 19th, at a hospital in Indianapolis. Haskell was attending the concert with her friend, Alina Bigjohny, who was also killed. Doctors battled brain swelling after she suffered catastrophic injuries following the August 13th stage collapse. Toothman was a cheerleading coach at Turpin High School in Cincinnati. She was put into a medically induced coma two days after the stage collapse. "Late last night it became apparent that our Meagan was no longer with us," the family wrote in an online journal.
