Viscosity of Liquids

Dropping a 100g weight from 80 cm into 8 different beakers of liquid. Testing the 'inner resistance' of each of the liquids or their 'thickness'.
testing viscous coupling

testing viscous coupling: this is a 4 year old Visco and has 45.000km on it. rear diff is open (not locked), one rear wheel is of the ground, front diff is locked. I have put wheel chocks in front of front wheels to put some serious load to front diff. Seems like Visco is not in a good condition, transmits torque to front diff only when rear spins fast.. I want a decoupler I think :(
Viscous thread falling on a moving belt

A stream of very viscous syrup falls from a nozzle onto a moving belt. Initially, the belt is moving so fast that the thread is just pulled out straight. As the speed of the belt is reduced, the thread first bifurcates to a meandering state, and then to a "figure eight" state. Finally, the thread falls into a coiling motion similar to what it would do on a non-moving surface. The syrup is Newtonian. See www.physics.utoronto.ca

CUDA NVidia - Low Viscosity Flow Simulations

We present a combination of techniques to simulate turbulent fluid flows in 3D. This paper describes a fluid simulation method used in the film industry. We use CUDA to accelerate our high resolution Poisson solver to enforce fluid incompressibility. Flow in a complex domain is modeled using a regular rectilinear grid with a finite-difference solution to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. We propose the use of the QUICK advection algorithm over a globally high resolution grid. To calculate pressure over the grid, we introduce the Iterated Orthogonal Projection (IOP) framework. In IOP a series of orthogonal projections ensures that multiple conditions such as non-divergence and boundary conditions arising through complex domains shapes or moving objects will be satisfied simultaneously to specified accuracy. High Quality Adaptive Viscous Liquids (SCA 2011 Paper)

The demonstration video for the SCA 2011 conference paper entitled "A Simple Finite Volume Method for Adaptive Viscous Liquids" coauthored by Christopher Batty (of Columbia University & Exocortex) and Ben Houston (of Exocortex). Simulation required ~4 minutes per frame and 6GB of memory for the high resolution Armadillo simulations (resolutions equivalent to 40 million voxels) and less than 5 seconds per frame and 0.5GB of memory for the coilings and torus simulations (resolutions equivalent to 1 million voxels). The rapid simulation times were achieved because the simulator is build upon Exocortex's unique adaptive tetrahedral technology. The simulator is available for custom jobs under the brand name MaelstromFX. Please contact info@exocortex.com for more information. Blackmer Sliding Vane Pumps in Thin and Viscous Applications

Positive displacement sliding vane pumps provide superior performance over all other positive displacement pump technologies in moving low viscocity, thin liquids, such as refined fuels, LPG, refrigerants, liquid carbon dioxide and ammonia, to name a few. Vane pumps are clearly the pump of choice in thin liquid applications. But, it should also be known that vane pumps are very effective at moving high viscosity liquids in the range of 50000 ssu and higher.

hi. i made new realflow simulation with high viscosity (little less then Previous video) but with higher resolution.. 700000 particles.. the simulation took about "75" Hours the render took 15 Hours i know there are still some problems but.. i dont have more "75" Hours to re simulate :0 hope youll like it.. yuval

Viscosity Breakdown - There Again

Somewhere in a garage on the other side of town is a rock band with guitars, amplifiers and speaker wires running all over the place. They are in the garage sharpening their sound and their skills. The Band: Viscosity Breakdown is a Missoula Rock Band that started in the 90s. In over ten years VB has been heard and seen in rock clubs, back yards, outdoor festivals, museums, bars and all-ages halls. Some of their members have changed over the years but the band has always had a core of dedicated musicians, today or yesterday. Devin Rau - Bass, a founding member, Frank Stepek - Guitars, Scott Hubney - Vocals and Guitar, Adam Koach - Drums. Multiple members have authored the bands songs

High viscosity cream realflow simulation - Mesh quality FROST Test - View in 720P!

You must view this video in 720p in order to see the quality differences. In this test I'm checking if it's possible to achieve a flicker free mesh of a high viscosity Realflow simulation using very low res values while meshing with Frost and comparing the result to standard Realflow meshes. Normally in Realflow high viscosity values (100 to 400) makes the simulation highly unstable (particles explode) and to keep a smooth interpolation between frames you need to increase the min-max substeps significally. If you need the realflow mesh to keep enough details it needs to have at least 1-2milllion particles. To keep such a high count from exploding the min-max substeps need to be raised accordingly and kept at least at 2000min to 3000max which also translates to days of simulation time... Such high values will produce a great looking realflow mesh, but if your shot is in close up and rendered in HD there're good chances the mesh will still flicker heavily and won't pass any broadcast standards. The cause is due to other friction values, small global scale, etc. Common solution is just to blur it in comp. If that's not possible then you have no choice but to sim at a higher scale and tweak more values of that long simulation which is a real pain.... Thinkbox's FROST finally makes it possible to mesh a smooth flicker free mesh even from quite a low resolution simulation which means a HUGE time saver in production time.

How Temperature Affects the Viscosity of Honey - A Science Fair Project

Alex's 2010 science fair project involved dropping a marble into a container of honey at three different temperatures and timing how long it took to hit the bottom. Nine marble drops each at 50, 70 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The length of time was used as a proxy to determine how temperature affects the viscosity of honey. This video was made using Final Cut Express to show the split screen marble drops.

AB EX NY: Art Terms in Action: Viscosity

Viscosity is the thickness of a liquid. Low-viscosity liquids are very fluid (such as water) while high-viscosity liquids are quite thick (such as molasses). The viscosity of oil paints is usually reduced by adding binder (such as linseed oil) and/or solvent (such as turpentine). At a lower viscosity, paint can be brushed onto the canvas more freely and quickly.
