Reeves Terrapin (chinemys reevsii), Chinese golden thread (ocadia sinesis)This is my families aquatic turtle terrariaum. The two turtles are housed with a chinese water dragon, and also small koi. We started with water dragon almost two years ago and added the turtles about 10 months ago to the enclosure. They live very well with one another. You can see the DUAL waterfalls we have in there. One is a waterfall and filter creating a pondless effect, the other being just rocks held up by magnets on walls, with a strategically placed filter/pump providing the water flow. The other big effect is the exo terra fogger in the corner providing the fog and adding further humidity to the terrarium. There are various branches and vines throughout the enclosure. Exo terra hanging plants add a great accent to the enclosure, also covering unsightly wires and hoses. finally completed, with live frogs added!!!! Many people are asking me how the tank was built, what was the background made of, and what are the plants... Well.. The plants are from Lowes, Home Depot, and an online plant distributer out of Massachusetts. The background is made from REAL cork bark purchased form THATFISHPLACE.COM in Lancaster PA. it is held in place by aquarium grade silicone, and cut to fit around the REAL rock, that acts as a waterfall. The substrate is Eco-earth on top of gravel, which sets on a PVC pipe and "eggcrate" shelf, to permit water flow. There is about 10 gallons of water in the tank, and it is circulated by two pumps, one is an under water filter (which I would not recommend) accompanied by a Fluval 101 canister, with a ball check on the return to limit the flow of the waterfall. Everything in the tank is living, and natural. nothing looks better than REAL plants in a natural setting vivarium.

Hey everyone just a quick update, didn't do much on Day 4 other than continue to touch up the background. Today I got the lights for the tank (they're GE Daylight CFL 6500k bulbs) and got the order from Black Jungle in ( 5 plants the rest is still on its way). More to come.

Here is my current vivarium build using a new background method for myself. Its made using "special kitty" kitty litter (100% natural clay) mixed with peat moss, eco earth substrate, a little co-co fiber, and mulched spahgnum. Pros: Easy to make; Very Very cheap (about 10$ total for this background); Bromeliads can be stuck directly into the background; the list goes on.... I've been researching vivariums for over three years and am finally going to be able to raise some frogs. This is my second vivarium that I've built. It has a waterfall that flows through some driftwood, fog that comes out of the back wall, a stone shelf creating a second level halfway up the fancy background and a growing list of plants. I've also ordered four Leucomelas Poison Dart Frogs that will live in this little rain forest. They are also known as the banded frog or bumble bee frog for their yellow and black bands. A 45 cm (18") cube vivarium for dart frogs that i have built. Currently vacant of frogs, but the flora has been settling in for about two weeks. Temperatures are about 20-21 C (68-70F) during the day and a bit less at night. Substrate is coco fiber and some peat, without fertilizers of course. Light sources are two 23W 6500K compact fluorescent bulbs. Plants: Peperomia Prostrata on the bottom left side Two Bromaliads, one at the left and one at the right, but i dont know their names Tillandsia Bulbosa at the top right corner Tillandsia ionantha 'Fuego' at the middle Riccia moss at the left side of the bottom, Java moss on the right side And some kind of fern at the right side in the front, I dont know its name. The background is styrofoam covered with waterproof acrylic concrete and painted with waterproof, non-toxic acrylic paint. I hope to get two Dendrobates Tinctorius or some Dendrobates Leucomela in there, but it all depends on what is for sale. Constructive criticism is welcome, as this is my first vivarium ever.

Here is a little video trying to catch a good glimpse of a healthy substrate layer in a 180 gallon vivarium. Shows some good roots and aeration. Also, I show some of the short-comings of my tank. The front sides began to leak from roots I suspect. This tank is little over a year old and is a utopia for plants. The bottom is sealed so any water that builds up I treat as the water-table. Sodium build-up will eventually force me to drain and then the tank will take major characteristic changes. Please check out my other video including the terrestrial views, they are great!

125gal at 6-7 months old, the plants are taking over. Now if only the moss would decide to do the same. I wonder if moss wont grow on rocks with high calcium, any thoughts? The moss grows well on the lacerock but poorly on the tufa. Currently living in the tank are 3 Vietnamese mudskippers, 3 archerfish, an angel I bought for my girlfriend (dont care to learn its name), 1 blue gourami, and 2 panther crabs. If your curious about what kinds of plants just ask, theres about 17 species or so.
