From 2001, Rufus gives a sweet performance of the lovely "Poses," the title track of his second album.

"Set The Fire To The Third Bar" (feat. Martha Wainwright) -------------------------------------- I find the map and draw a straight line Over rivers, farms, and state lines The distance from 'A' to where you'd be It's only finger-lengths that I see I touch the place where I'd find your face My finger in creases of distant dark places I hang my coat up in the first bar There is no peace that I've found so far The laughter penetrates my silence As drunken men find flaws in science Their words mostly noises Ghosts with just voices Your words in my memory Are like music to me I'm miles from where you are, I lay down on the cold ground I, I pray that something picks me up And sets me down in your warm arms After I have travelled so far We'd set the fire to the third bar We'd share each other like an island Until exhausted, close our eyelids And dreaming, pick up from The last place we left off Your soft skin is weeping A joy you can't keep in I'm miles from where you are, I lay down on the cold ground And I, I pray that something picks me up and sets me down in your warm arms I'm miles from where you are, I lay down on the cold ground and I, I pray that something picks me up and sets me down in your warm arms

PreOrder Here: tinyurl.com Rufus Wainwright marks his sixth studio album with All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, to be released April 20th on the Decca Label Group. The album was written and produced by Wainwright with two songs produced and one co-produced by Pierre Marchand, who also mixed the album. The two last collaborated on Rufus' Poses album. The album is hugely personal, deeply emotional and all channeled through Rufus fingers, his voice and a piano. Rufus admits recording All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu was one of the most difficult things he has ever done. After hiding behind a 70-piece orchestra with my opera you can blame everything on the tuba player. With this album, when the curtain is raised its me on my own, says Rufus. Strapped with a resounding emotional heft and steeped in beauty, the intense 12-track record opens in arresting fashion with Who Are You New York?, Rufus ode to the city. Les Feux dartifice tappellent, which is the final aria from Rufus debut opera, Prima Donna, is another highlight along with Zebulon, a majestic song about one of Rufus high school sweethearts. Also featured are three Shakespeare sonnets which Rufus has gorgeously crafted in his very own inimitable style. They are selected from 24 pieces of music that Rufus wrote for a theatrical production, Sonette with director Robert Wilson in Berlin last year. Set to be one of the highlights for 2010s musical calendar, Rufus Wainwright will recreate the intensity of All Days Are ...

Loudon Wainwright III plays "Your Mother and I". Yes, I know I fucked up the encoding, but it's minor enough to fly, and I can't be bothered to do it again right now.

Rufus Wainwright - 2003-10-06 - Dinner At Eight (Live On Letterman)

Loudon Wainwright III plays Unrequited. Sorry about the bad editing, but I was working within key-frames.

Rufus performs a gorgeous "The Art Teacher" on US late-night televison. Watch how he hams it up for the camera/audience on the the word "loved" in the last line. Probably my personal favorite Rufus video. His intonation is really beautiful, in terms of both emotional expression and vocal quality.

Rufus singing "Sonnet 29": When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes, I all alone beweep my outcast state And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries And look upon myself and curse my fate, Wishing me like to one more rich in hope, Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd, Desiring this man's art and that man's scope, With what I most enjoy contented least; Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising, Haply I think on thee, and then my state, Like to the lark at break of day arising From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate; For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings That then I scorn to change my state with kings. --William Shakespeare
