Weather Balloon with Camera

Sent up a weather balloon with camera and gps attached. Since there were off-shore winds I started in the desert of California and luckily it didn't end up in the ocean. The balloon got to around 70000 feet and went as fast as 123 mph or more (the gps on board doesn't go past that). You can see Mountain High, downtown LA, Azusa Canyon, Catalina, Long Beach, etc.

HD balloon near the edge of space, full launch to air sequence

Buy the do-it-yourself kit at: www.ProjectAether.org This video shows the full ground to air launch and altitude sequence of a research weather balloon with a VadoHD video camera attached to it. The balloon and payload went to an altitude between 80000 ft and 100000 ft. The camera is attached to the payload of a research weather balloon. The balloon was launched from the lawn of the University of Houston and traveled approximately 20 miles East to Baytown TX before the balloon burst and the payload fell to Earth by parachute. The VadoHD survived ambient air pressures as low as 1/100th of an atmosphere, temperatures as low as -60C, and even survived being run over by an industrial lawn mower 1 week after falling to Earth. Incidentally we never would have found the payload if it hadn't been run over by this lawn mower. All of the data was intact on the camera and though a lawn mower blade destroyed the LCD screen, the VadoHD still takes great video! Note: This video is not related to the "Balloon Boy" For more information on the weather research conducted with this weather balloon visit: sharp.hnet.uh.edu ---------------------------------------------------------- We are planning another HD balloon launch to the edge of space in late July / early August. Weather balloon GPS space flight iPhone camera footage homemade spacecraft 100000 ft altitude (HD)

Originally uploaded on October 10, 2010 by me, TheHeroOfChrist. Video from a camera attached to a weather balloon that rose into the upper stratosphere and recorded the blackness of space. Seven-year-old Max Geissbuhler and his dad Luke Geissbuhler dreamed of visiting space. Armed with just a weather balloon, a video camera, and an iPhone, they basically did just that. The father-and-son team from Brooklyn managed to send their homemade spacecraft up nearly 19 miles, high into the stratosphere, bringing back perhaps the most impressive amateur space footage ever. The duo housed the video camera, iPhone, and GPS equipment in a specially designed insulated casing, along with some hand-warmers and a note from Max requesting its safe return from whomever may find it after making it back to solid ground. All told, father and son spent eight months preparing for their homemade journey into space, in hopes of filming "the blackness beyond our earth." Then, one day in August, Max, his father, and his friend Miles Horner headed out to a nearby park to see their dreams realized. After attaching their equipment to a 19-inch weather balloon and switching on the camera, they watched as their simple craft disappeared high into the sky. "In August 2010, we set out to send a camera to space. The mission was to attach an HD video camera to a weather balloon and send it up into the upper stratosphere to film the blackness beyond our earth. GIGANTIC Weather Balloon B2P-movie.mov

We blow up a giant weather balloon (with skirt). This sucker got about 12-foot tall on its side, and we inflated the skirt as well. Check out this double balloon blow to pop (almost). It finally got so big that, after 3 and a half hours of blowing, and a living room filled wall to wall, floor to ceiling, we had to kill it. Hope ya like, please comment and let me know what you think. HUGE Thanks to Alex A. (in Oregon) for this special gift. Sorry it took so long to do something with it. We have another one, when the weather is better, we will do it outside and see how big this sucker can really get. Many thanks to our special guest Luke for his assistance in blowing and busting this monster balloon...

Photos of Earth from Near Space Weather Balloon

Near space photographic weather balloon. We were able to take photos of near space and the curvature of the earth *End story for the space balloon- After about 58 minutes of flight time the balloon landed in about an hour and a half away by car. We were able to track the landing using the gps on the cheap track phone and used Google Map to see photos of the yard where the balloon had landed. We drove out to find the owner of the property not home and the balloon 75 ft up in a tree in his back yard. We fashioned a long pole (12 ft?) out of pool cues, meter sticks, and duct tape we had in the car and I climbed up the tree with the pole. We were unable to retrieve it on the first attempt and had to drive out to a hardware store to buy a hook to tape to the end of the pole. We retrieved the balloon without the resident ever knowing we were there.

Natty Light First Beer In Space HD

On May 27th, 2011 Natty Light officially became The First Beer In Space. Two of Natty Lights Facebook fans, Danny and Rich, came to us with an epic idea to make Natty the first beer in space. We said go for it, just let us know when ya shoot it off! Natty Light helped make their dream a reality, by offering to support their efforts on Natty's Facebook page. The spacecraft was named the Aluminum Fullcan by Natty's Facebook Fans (submitted by Kel Thomas). Natty Light First Beer In Space: The Plan (video) www.youtube.com The spacecraft was launched via weather balloon. The ascent took about 2hrs rising to an altitude of 90000ft+. The Aluminum Fullcan spacecraft landed 60 miles from the launch site and took Danny and Rich 2hrs to locate by gps (due to the rural area of the landing that offered poor reception). The event was a complete success and Natty Light officially became The First Beer In Space (edge of space)...what we like to call the Nattmosphere! The spacecraft was composed of a styrofoam cooler carrying the first beer (full beer) in space on board, a gps tracking device, an HD video camera pointed at another (empty) can on the outside of the ship (It's the can you see in frame). Got an epic idea for Natty? Post it on the wall. If we like it, who knows maybe we'll make your next Natty adventure a reality! www.facebook.com Special Thanks from Natty Nation goes out to Danny B. and Rich T. you dudes are awesome!! Weather Balloon w/UFO flyby 6/26/2011

This is the second weather balloon I have ever captured on video the first being 6/02/2011 which I filmed in exactly the same spot. The reason I am posting this is because I have seen some info that says they may be something other than a weather ballon. Also at 7:30 a bright unidentified flying object crosses the balloons path, sorry for filming, kinda caught me off guard. Still looking forward to the big day (Full Disclosure) but waiting patiently till it manifests. Peace to you all.

Weather Balloon Photography - Near Outer Space Attempt Two

JEP-2 On August 1, 2010 we launched our second balloon. We upgraded the payload to include a video camera. Our goal was 100000 feet, but our balloon burst prematurely at approximately 80000 feet. The burst jolted the package and forced the button on the camera to be depressed. This stopped the photographs. There was about 20 minutes of video after the burst, but the decent was so fast and blurry. We launched in Cartersville, GA and landed about 80 feet up a pine tree in Villa Rica, GA. Stay tuned after January...we are planning our third launch for the winter months!
