Montgomery County Texas wildfires spread throughout Magnolia area, and East Montgomery County
Fire crews are continuing the fight to keep a wildfire from reaching America's premier nuclear-weapons laboratory and the surrounding community of Los Alamos. Firefighters spent Wednesday setting fires to create a burned out area west and south of the laboratory. The fire had grown to 201 square kilometres by nightfall. Officials say 13 homes have been lost so far and three others damaged. The pillars of smoke that can be seen as far as Albuquerque, 60 miles (97 kilometres) away, have people on edge. The fire has also cast a haze as far away as Kansas.

The scene was hellish, thick red smoke rising into the starry sky. The fire seemed to go for 10 km. A massive out of control grass fire south of Lethbridge Alberta. Just south of the towns of Raymond and Stirling. Our evening started normally, what we thought was a low lying cloud on the horizon was actually a massive column of smoke from an out of control wildfire. At first I thought it was in Montana but then we saw the flames in the distance. It was burning out of control on top of a large ridge known as the Milk River Ridge. To make matters worse we've been buffeted by gale force winds all day so the fire was spreading like crazy. The opening shot was the only real risk I took. I felt it was reasonable since the wind was at my back and blowing in the same direction at 100 kmph all day. Frankly I was more concerned getting caught in the thick smoke Also took pains not to get in the way of fire fighting efforts. Most of the shots are actually taken from far behind the fire fighting effort. The local community came together with local farmers plowing fire breaks and community workers with graders and water truckers helping in the effort.

As fire crews gain ground against one of the most destructive wildfires in Texas history, some residents of Bastrop county, who lost their houses to the flames, were gearing up on Wednesday to rebuild their homes. The blaze has left at least two people dead, blackened about 45 square miles (116.55 square kilometres) around Bastrop and cast a haze over Austin, 25 miles (40 kilometres) to the west. Firefighters report that the flames are at least 30 percent contained after burning uncontrolled for three days. Thousands of Texans have been evacuated from Central Texas and forced to put their lives on hold, as they wait find out if their homes are still standing. The wildfire is the most catastrophic of more than 170 blazes that have erupted in the past week across the Lone Star State, which is perilously dry because of one of the state's most severe droughts on record. The remaining residents of two eastern Arizona towns in the path of a massive wildfire have been ordered to evacuate. The Apache County sheriff ordered everyone still in Springerville and Eagar to leave on Wednesday evening. A massive plume of smoke dominated the skyline as the fire got closer. About seven thousand people live in the towns and surrounding areas, although many already have left. The order came as a spot fire made it past fire lines. A fire spokesman said the flames are not in the towns. The blaze was sparked on May 29 by what authorities believe was an unattended campfire. It became the second-largest in Arizona history on Tuesday.
