190 years ago, Nicolas Rieussec recorded time to an accuracy of a fifth second for the first time - the chronograph was born. To celebrate this unique invention, Montblanc is announcing the one-of-a-kind "The Beauty of a Second" short-film contest presented by the famous film director Wim Wenders. Your challenge as a video artist is to "seize the moment". Everyone - professionals, amateurs, cell-phone camera enthusiasts -- is invited to capture a one-second long moving picture. The subject can be anything you consider as beautiful: a smile, a child's face, a flower, a piece of the world around you, as long as the video lasts only one second. Capture your second beauty now and get the chance to win a Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph. Watch the video to receive further information. Don't forget: Every second counts.

Wim Sweldens, President, Alcatel-Lucent wireless activities, talks about lightRadio™, a new system that signals the end of the mobile industry's reliance on masts and base stations around the world. lightRadio represents a new architecture where the base station, typically located at the base of each cell site tower, is broken into its components elements and then distributed into both the antenna and throughout a cloud-like network. Additionally today's clutter of antennas serving 2G, 3G, and LTE systems are combined and shrunk into a single powerful, Bell Labs-pioneered multi frequency, multi standard Wideband Active Array Antenna that can be mounted on poles, sides of buildings or anywhere else there is power and a broadband connection. 'Wings of Desire' was the English title given to Wenders' 'Der Himmel über Berlin' (The Sky Over Berlin). Wenders' post-war Berlin is watched over by angels, invisible to all but children, who try to bring comfort to the city's inhabitants. One of the angels, Daniel, falls in love with a trapeze artist (Marian) and longs to become mortal. American actor Peter Falk, better known as 'Columbo' assists by explaining the joys of being human. Shot in black and white, the film changes to colour when the transformation is complete. The film was later remade by Hollywood as 'City of Angels' starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan, but the original is far superior. See also: www.wim-wenders.com

In January this year, Wim Hof ran a half Marathon (21 km) above the polar circle in Finland. He wore only a pair of shorts and no shoes. The ground (snow) temperature was 35 below. In a few months time, he'll try something similar on Everest's north side. The expedition, led by Dutch Werner de Jong, will try to set a new world record as Wim attempts to climb parts of Everest wearing only shorts. This is not your regular stunt. Wim already has 9 world records, and has trained hard for many years to withstand cold, much like some monks do in Tibet. Wim can actually regulate his core heat to control the temperature of his skin. Something of a medical enigma, Wim is able to withstand cold that could kill or seriously injure other people. On Everest, Wim will also put to use his free style climbing skills - which he once demonstrated hanging between 2 hot air balloons by his middle finger at an altitude of 1500 meters. Once back inside the basket, Wim finished by climbing to the top of the balloon. One of Wim's world record attempts took him to the North Pole, where he held his breath for about 6 minutes and 20 seconds below the ice. Wim Hof, of the Netherlands, stands up to his neck in ice for 72 minutes, Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, outside the Rubin Museum of Art in New York, during a successful attempt to break his previous world record for immersion in an outdoor ice bath. Known as "The Iceman," Mr. Hof controls his body temperature by the tantric practice of tumo and is the only non-Tibetan in the world to have mastered this art.

Dutch daredevil Wim Hof is planning to run a full 26-mile marathon 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle, clad only in shorts and open sandals. Wim wont be doing any physical training. He sees this as a challenge of the power of the human mind. Wim currently holds nine world records for exposure to extreme cold but bizarre act of extreme endurance would surpass all his previous adventures and could cause serious damage to his body as he is exposed to temperatures of up to -25C for more than five hours. His preparations in Amsterdam include taking midnight dunks in freezing canals and meditating in a meat freezer. His wife Caroline wishes Wim would dedicate more of his time towards her family and a social work project she runs in Poland which offers support to troubled teenagers. Tension is running high as Wim, his wife and their 6 year old son Noah drive from Amsterdam to Poland and on to northern Finland for the marathon attempt. Everybody knows Wim is taking on a level of exposure to cold thats twice as long as anything he has ever previously attempted. Channel 4 TX: 21/09/2009 www.firecrackerfilms.com

TEDxAmsterdam - Wim Hof is a Dutch world record holder, adventurer and daredevil, commonly nicknamed the Iceman for his ability to withstand extreme coldness. He holds nine world records including a world record for longest ice bath. Wim broke his previous world record by staying for 1 hour 13 minutes and 48 seconds immersed in ice at Guinness World Records 2008. Hof describes his ability to withstand extreme cold temperatures as being able to turn his own thermostat up by using his brain.

Pío Leyva (May 5, 1917 March 22, 2006), born Wilfredo Pascual, was a Cuban singer and the author of the well-known guaracha El Mentiroso ("The Liar"). Leyva was part of the Buena Vista Social Club, and composed some of Cubas best known standards. Leyva was born in Morón, Cuba in 1917. He won a bongo contest at the age of six and made his singing debut in 1932. He recorded over 25 albums since he signed his first contract with RCA Victor in 1950. Leyva sang with other Cuban artists such as Benny Moré, Bebo Valdés and Noro Morales and was a member of Estrellas de Areito and "Compay Segundo y Sus Muchachos."[1] Fellow musician Barbarito Torres said of Leyva: "Pio has always been a famous singer in Cuba. I've always admired him, not just for his talent, but because of his great personality. He's the inspiration."[2] Leyva took part in the 2004 film Música Cubana, which was marketed as a sequel to Buena Vista Social Club. Leyva died of a heart attack, in March 2006. PLOT The story begins with BVSCs (Independent charity working to help promote and develop voluntary and community organisations in the city) endearing octogenarian singer, Pio Leyva (real), who is on his way to a radio station to perform. On his way, he meets a cab driver, played by actor Barbaro Marin (fiction), who decides that, with the aid of Leyva, a new band would be formed called The Sons of Cuba (fiction). The rest of the film takes us along to find the new members of the band, who are selected from Cubas ...

PLEASE EXPERIENCE IN HD! RIP Peter Falk. My 2nd donation to the youtube group: 1001 Movies To See Before You Die, by Steven Jay Schnieder. www.youtube.com From Criterion: "Bruno Ganz is Damiel, an angel perched atop buildings high over Berlin who can hear the thoughts—fears, hopes, dreams—of all the people living below. But when he falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, he is willing to give up his immortality and come back to earth to be with her. Made not long before the fall of the Berlin wall, this stunning tapestry of sounds and images, shot in black and white and color by the legendary Henri Alekan, is movie poetry. And it forever made the name Wim Wenders synonymous with film art." The song is "Acrobat" by As Tall As Lions, and I though the two fit together perfectly. I take no credit for the music or the imagery...only the blending of the two together. This is merely my attempt at tribute art and editing.
