Raymond Burr Vineyards - Sonoma County Wine Tasting

Visiting Raymond Burr Vineyards is a special treat! Legendary Raymond Burr, of the Perry Mason and Ironside fame, along with longtime friend and colleague Robert Benevides, planted their first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 1986 and bottled their first vintage in 1992. Raymond was only able to taste this vintage from the barrel before his passing but in his wake he left a style, passion and philosophy that is still inherent in the winemaking today. The wines made at Raymond Burr Vineyards - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Chardonnay - along with a very small production of specialized Ports - are said to be very much like the man: big, full of gusto, complex and jubilantly alive. Raymond & Robert both had the aptitude for cultivation in their genes, which is what made them fast friends back in the 1950's when they began to share their mutual passion for the cultivation and hybridization of orchids. This shared hobby grew into a lifelong commercial venture which later became Sea God nurseries. During their time together they were responsible for over 1500 new orchids added to the worldwide catalogue - some of which you can see in when you visit. Today the orchid greenhouses are under the care of both Robert and longtime orchid aficionado Francisco Baptista, and are open for public tours by appointment on Saturdays & Sundays. Visiting Raymond Burr vineyards is a full & rich experience - the history, the orchids, the friendly staff and of course the wines, make it a 'must ...

These guidelines will help make your party a soiree to remember. To complete this How-To you will need: Wine Wine glasses Paper cups Plain crackers or bread Water Tasting sheets Pencils Paper bags (optional) A prize (optional) Step 1: Buy the wine Pick a theme. Contrast whites and reds from the same region; compare wines made from the same grape but harvested in different areas or years; or focus on a single wine producer and pick several of their wines for comparison. Tip: One bottle of wine provides five to six glasses, or tastings for about 18 guests. Step 2: Provide the proper glasses Provide the proper glasses. White wine glasses are smaller than red wine glasses, which have more of a bowl shape. Have paper cups on hand that guests can use as spittoons. Tip: Avoid using cut crystal or colored glasses; being able to see the wine clearly is an important part of the tasting ritual. Step 3: Prepare the wine Chill white wines for about an hour before serving; you don't want them too cold. Serve the red wine at cellar, not room, temperature, which is ...

How Expectations Bias Wine Taste - Leonard Mlodinow

Complete video at: fora.tv Best-selling author and physicist Leonard Mlodinow discusses how the power of expectation applies to wine. Mlodinow claims that red dye can deceive even the most experienced connoisseur, and a false $10 price tag on a $90 bottle of wine can manipulate a test subject's reaction. ----- From economic disaster to Supreme Court rulings, pure randomness may explain life's outcomes more than we realize. Mlodinow proposes that we tend to overestimate the control we have over our destinies. The best-selling author explains how a better understanding of statistics might bring hope to a nation facing an onslaught of misfortune. - Commonwealth Club of California Leonard Mlodinow was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1954. He graduated from Brandeis University in 1976 with a double major in math and physics, and a Masters degree in physics. In 1981, he received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of California at Berkeley. After graduating, Mlodinow joined the faculty of the California Institute of Technology, and then became an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Physics and Astrophysics in Munich, Germany. In 1985, Mlodinow moved to Los Angeles to become a screenwriter. Over the next several years, he wrote for television series such as Hunter, MacGyver, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and the comedy series Night Court. In 1993, Mlodinow became producer, executive producer and designer of several award-winning video ...

Retail Tasting: Gary Vaynerchuk & Wine Library -- James Suckling -- www.JamesSuckling.com

I was happy about the thought of tasting wine with media rock star Gary Vaynerchuk in his wine shop in Springfield, New Jersey. I'm sure you are familiar with Gary's success as a video blogger and a new media superstar. His books, such as Crush It!, have sold millions of copies. And his daily wine video show attracts millions of viewers a month. If you view his wine library videos, you might expect Gary to be a little overly rambunctious and casual about wine. However, I found him to be extremely knowledgeable and precise, as well as enthusiastic and educated about wine. Of course we gravitate to different wines in some cases, but in the end, I think our palates are on the same wavelength. I really enjoyed tasting wine with the guy!
