Within this review, I will go over the unit itself as well as i will be testing it out on two different games and see if the change in controller will change my skill level. First Impressions, Taking it out of the box, you feel that its quality made, with a good size USB cable. The unit has 8 switches on the face of it, each one represents a Turbo feature for a specific button on the controller. There is no install because its as easy as plugging it in and turning on your PS3. You know the unit is working as the Blue LED will be visible and you will show up as Player 1 on the Controller itself. The middle X button does its job as the PS button. It at first feels weird to be able to do this function with the feeling of another controller in hand. The only feature that this button doesnt replicate is the ability to turn the console on. As the controller is powered by USB and USB only being activated when the system is ON, you have to get up and turn your PS3 on Manually. Once your system is up and running, your Blue LED is on and your Controller is showing you its Controller 1, your all set to get into the action. When you get into a game, the first thing you need to do is change the button layouts. Because the game is meant to be played on the one for the system, the default layout is a horrible one to use. NOTE! some issues I bring up have been fixed in an firmware update!!! I was excited to get my XCM F1 converter. Finally a solution for having one wheel for all 3 systems. (PC, XBOX, PS3). As of right now the Fanatec GT2 wheel is 4 months out and I have no patience. In late January I saw that XCM was releasing this new device which would allow you to use the amazing G25/G27 racing wheel on your 360. I was surprised to find that the package did not come with any instructions or guild of any kind. Once I figured out you needed a wired controller to prime the xbox I was off. I wanted to test one of the best sims on the xbox (Forza 3). I had to use controller pre-set #2 to get it to use the paddles because using the shifter was annoying, you had to push it into 3rd, and pull it out right away to shift up. Because you can not modify the controller mapping in Forza I was not able to find the perfect setup. The paddles were backwards, shifting up was on the LEFT paddle. And the force feedback needs to be toned down or made so we can disable it. The worst was the deadzone. Even with the game setup to have 0 dead zone, the converter still had way too much dead zone if you want to use this wheel competitively. I really want to use this converter, I love my g27. But until these things are fixed it will be impossible for me to use. I will continue to try and use it. If I find a way to make it work I will post a follow up video.
