I discovered Vocal Slender while watching the excellent BBC program titled Welcome to Lagos Part 1″. An amazing programme which showcased the plight of everyday Lagosians trying to make a living. In Vocal Slenders case, he makes his living primarily as a scavenger and the proceeds are used to further his dream to become an accomplished and successful music artiste. Vocal Slender born Eric Obuh from Ajegunle, was shown working on his Owo Yapa during the documentary. His style is similar to that of most artistes from Ajegunle like Showkey, Baba Fryo, Daddy Fresh, African Chine, Danfo Drivers etc. Rhythmic vocals infused with party and socially conscious lyrics laid on reggae beats served up with that nice Ajegunle flavour. I bought his debut album and listened to it before I started writing this piece and was pleasantly surprised. His debut album is available on iTunes so please support this artiste by purchasing it via your UK, US and Canada itunes store.

W dniach 1315 marca odbył się w Łodzi jeden z największych w Polsce festiwali piosenki turystycznej. OSPPT Yapa to wielkie święto i prawdopodobnie jedyna taka impreza w Polsce. Przez trzy dni publiczność ma okazję podziwiać na scenie cała czołówkę polskich zespołów prezentujących piosenkę turystyczną i poezję śpiewaną. Yapa to także konkurs młodych wykonawców, którzy dzięki przeglądowi maja szansę dołączyć do tego szacownego grona. Ale Yapa to przede wszystkim spotkanie ludzi, którzy zjeżdżają się na te trzy dni do Łodzi, żeby ze sobą pograć, pogadać i pobawić się, a łączy ich zamiłowanie do wałęsania się po górach, jeziorach, oceanach i całym świecie. Tegoroczna Yapa odbywa się pod patronatem e-beskidów. Historia OSPPT Yapa sięga roku 1974, kiedy to pod wodzą Wojtka Hempla odbył się „Ogólnopolski Przegląd Piosenki Turystycznej Łódź 1974. Przegląd reklamował dentystyczny plakat z ilustracją otwartej ludzkiej „paszczy. Co następnie - droga skojarzeń - doprowadziło do powstania nazwy przeglądu, która funkcjonuje do dziś. Tak jak w 1974 roku tak i dziś jest to nieustannie impreza organizowana przez studentów dla studentów. Znakomita okazja by spotkać przyjaciół z górskich wędrówek, spływów. Posłuchać na żywo w oryginalnym wykonaniu turystycznych przebojów i usłyszeć te nowe, które być może już za kilka miesięcy usłyszymy przy ognisku gdzieś w górach.
