Yellowstone Super Volcano Alert - History Channel Special

YELLOWSTONE SPECIAL ALERT - 01.23.2010 - USGS reports well over a thousand earthquakes within the last 7 days, four of which rattled Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park spokesman Al Nash says people reported feeling the Wednesday quakes at the park locations of Old Faithful, Canyon and Mammoth and in the Montana towns of West Yellowstone and Gardiner. The University of Utah Seismograph Station speculates that the swarms of earthquakes are probably the result of slipping preexisting faults rather than underground movement of magma. However faults are not know to produce non-stop earth quake activity lasting for weeks on end. Only underground magma on the move can do that, as the quakes are all concentrated inside Yellowstone Park rather than along a fault line running hundreds of miles in length. (Go figure) Since no one in recorded history knows the warning signs of a super volcano about to erupt, obviously it's anyone's guess. Just know that if these quakes continue, it's advised that anyone within a 400 mile radios may want to find somewhere else to stay for a while until the ground stops moving in Yellowstone. Note. In 2006 President Bush jr. mandated that the USGS not talk to the public about the state of Yellowstone. Obviously the public is to be kept in the dark as Obama had not rescinded the order. * You may want to Subscribe for latest updates. __________________________________________ Satellite imagery, GPS stats, and a whole bunch of other data ...

Mega Disasters- Yellowstone Volcano Super Eruption full documentary

The Yellowstone Caldera is the volcanic caldera located in Yellowstone National Park in the United States, sometimes referred to as the Yellowstone Supervolcano. The caldera is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming, in which the vast majority of the park is contained. The major features of the caldera measure about 34 miles (55 km) by 45 miles (72 km). Last eruption 70000 years ago (magmatic) / 1350 BC ± 200 years (explosive hydrothermal) ongoing (nonexplosive hydrothermal). Yellowstone, lies over a hotspot where light, hot, molten mantle rock rises towards the surface. While the Yellowstone hotspot is now under the Yellowstone Plateau, it previously helped create the eastern Snake River Plain (to the west of Yellowstone) through a series of huge volcanic eruptions. Although the hotspot's apparent motion is to the east-northeast, the North American Plate is really moving west-southwest over the stationary hotspot in the Earth's mantle. Over the past 17 million years or so, this hotspot has generated a succession of violent eruptions and less violent floods of basaltic lava. Together these eruptions have helped create the eastern part of the Snake River Plain from a once-mountainous region. At least a dozen of these eruptions were so massive that they are classified as supereruptions. Volcanic eruptions sometimes empty their stores of magma so swiftly that they cause the overlying land to collapse into the emptied magma chamber, forming a geographic depression called ...

SAFARI YELLOWSTONE 5- Bison Crossing and Coyote Stalking!

Safari Yellowstone Ep. 5-Bison Crossing and Coyote Stalking! The politics that surround animals and their welfare and conservation are almost always messy. Do we have to hunt bison and coyotes, or is it a way to make money selling permits and keeping the group of vocal hunters happy? Do we give in too much to animal rights and not science? Is the scare of brucellosis real enough, or is it just a way to justify "management" of so called wild bison herds? Isn't nature fun... East Yellowstone Exit - Interstate 20 to Cody Wyoming

Wyoming's total population is just a little more than 560000. That's smaller than the population of many cities, this is the real West, waiting to be explored and enjoyed. The amazing changes is geography is just starting as we descend from Yellowstone National Park to Cody, Wyoming, where not long ago Buffalo Bill rode and put on Wild West Shows. Red rock formations and canyons still have wild mustangs (horses) roaming and grizzly bears are found in the high country while pronghorn antelope are in the plains. Natural gas exploration has been driving Wyoming economy recently but it's the natural beauty at every turn that I will remember of Wyoming, it would be a great place to rent an RV and tour around for a couple of weeks, just getting away from it all. Listening to coyotes at night by a campfire, seeing the stars, fly fishing small streams in the high country and remembering that we all need an escape, back to nature.

FYI: Yellowstone's Super Volcano - Discovery Channel Podcast

Yellowstone is overdue Yellowstone has had an unusually high frequency of earth quakes Yellowstone's elevation has dramatically increased over the last 3 years. Posted by geologist Christopher C. Sanders on January 1, 2009. "I am advising all State officials around Yellowstone National Park for a potential State of Emergency. In the last week over 300 earthquakes have been observed by the USGS. We have a 3D view on the movement of magma rising underground. We have all of the pre warning signs of a major eruption from a super volcano. - I want everyone to leave Yellowstone National Park and for 200 miles around the volcano caldera."

Easy to play it over and over. Bring Yellowstone into your home! Yellowstone is one of my favorite places to visit. You can tell just a small fraction of its intense beauty by watching this 12 minute clip. Grand Prismatic Spring is one of the most visited spots within Yellowstone's confines, and it is well worth it. It is also the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest hot spring in the world. It is found in the Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park, Teton County, Wyoming. To get to the the spot where I am you will have to hike aprox. one mile. The first 3/4 of the mile is flat and its a great trail, but then you have to go straight up to get the elevation to get above Grand Prismatic. Have fun! See you in the park!

Yellowstone National Park's Wildlife: Bison (Buffalo)

The American bison (Bison bison), also commonly known as the American buffalo, is a North American species of bison that once roamed the grasslands of North America in massive herds - millions. Their range once roughly comprised a triangle between the Great Bear Lake in Canada's far northwest, south to the Mexican states of Durango and Nuevo León, and east along the western boundary of the Appalachian Mountains. Bison were hunted almost to extinction in the late 19th century primarily by market hunters and were reduced to a few hundred by the mid-1880s. They were hunted for their skins, with the rest of the animal left behind to decay on the ground. The US federal government promoted bison hunting for various reasons, to allow ranchers to range their cattle without competition from other bovines, and primarily to weaken the North American Indian population by removing their main food source and to pressure them onto the reservations. Without the bison, native people of the plains were forced either to leave the land or starve to death. For a decade from 1873 on, there were several hundred, perhaps over a thousand, such commercial hide/market hunting outfits harvesting bison at any one time, vastly exceeding the take by American Indians or individual meat hunters. The commercial take arguably was anywhere from 2000 to 100000 animals per day. en.wikipedia.org Music: by Boguslaw Boguch Cysewski, Song of a Winter Stream
