Amazing Video: 'Jet Man' stunts alongside fighter jets over Alps

Amazing pictures from Switzerland show where "jetman" Yves Rossy gave this incredible flying display, using a tailor-made jet pack. The aviation enthusiast leapt from a helicopter and performed a series of aerial acrobatics above the Alps. He then joined two jet planes in a synchronized flight. To synchronise their flight paths the jets reduced their speed to 220 kilometres per hour (137 miles per hour), which put their engines at a point close to stalling. Rossy's previous aerial feats include flying the English Channel and looping the loop around a hot-air balloon. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

Jetman Grand Canyon Flight, Yves Rossy

"This is the most challenging place I could fly," the Jetman, Yves Rossy, told reporters. Rossy's flight was his first in the US and potentially his most difficult. Previous over-water flights across the English Channel and Strait of Gibraltar provided the option of a water landing -- an option Rossy chose when en-route weather reduced safety margins during the Gibraltar run. The canyon offered far fewer options for a safe landing in the event of an emergency and its sharp corners and steep walls increased the likelihood of turbulence.

Live Yves Rossy - Yves "Jet Man" Rossy English Channel Crossing - Swiss Jet Man - Jet-man: Human Powered Flight

www.JetManBlog.com About the Movie with Yves Rossy DOVER, England - A Swiss daredevil crossed the English Channel strapped to a homemade jet-propelled wing Friday, parachuting into a field near the white cliffs of Dover after a 10-minute solo flight. Yves Rossy leapt from a plane at more than 8800 feet, fired up his jets and made the 22-mile trip from Calais in France. Rossy passed over a thin strip of land in front of South Foreland lighthouse, looped over onlookers and opened his parachute, his wings still strapped to his back. "It was perfect. Blue sky, sunny, no clouds, perfect conditions," he said. "We prepared everything and it was great." The trip across the Channel is meant to trace the route of French aviator Louis Bleriot, the first person to cross in an airplane 99 years ago. The lighthouse was the site of Guglielmo Marconi's experiments with radio telegraphy in 1898. Bleriot used the white building as a target during his pioneering flight, the building's manager, Simon Ovenden, said. Several hundred spectators rushed to greet the pilot, trying to take photographs with cameras and cell phones. "It's a remarkable achievement, we saw the climax of his attempt as he came down to earth with his parachute. It's been an exciting afternoon," said Geoff Clark, a 54-year-old onlooker from Chatham, in Kent. The carbon composite-wing weighs about 121 pounds when loaded with fuel, and carried four kerosene-burning jet turbines that kept him aloft. The wing had no steering ...

Yves 'Jetman' Rossy Flies Through The Grand Canyon

Flying his jet-propelled wing attached to his back, and steering only by moving his body, Yves 'Jetman' Rossy launched from a helicopter 8000 feet up into the breathtaking blue of the Grand Canyon sky. Skimming the rockscape at speeds of up to 190 mph, Jetman sustained his flight for more than eight minutes, 200 feet above the rim of Grand Canyon West. He ended the flawless precision flight by deploying his parachute and gracefully descending to the canyon floor. "My first flight in the US is sure to be one of the most memorable experiences in my life, not only for the sheer beauty of the Grand Canyon but the honor to fly in sacred Native American lands," Rossy stated. "Thank you Mother Nature and the Hualapai Tribe for making my lifelong dreams come true." An earlier flight scheduled for Friday, May 6 was cancelled when final FAA certification was held up due to difficulty in classifying Mr. Rossy's one-of-a-kind jet-powered wing. Yves Rossy has already won global acclaim for his successful jet-powered flights cross Lake Geneva and the English Channel. But this was the first time he had ever achieved his dream of flying in the purest sense in the US

Jet-Man - Yves "Fusion Man" Rossy 2006 Early Prototype - Jet-man: Human Powered Flight

www.JetManBlog.com About the Movie with Yves Rossy Man, forever obsessed with the dream of flying; Icarus' myth, tried time after time to fly like a bird. The best ever achieved are flying machines in which men lock themselves in, created by some of mankind's greatest pioneers in this area. Over the past decade, whilst still keeping the idea of flying like a bird in mind, various flying apparels were imagined and created such as hanggliders, paragliders, and gliding wingsuits. All of these use the various air currents to fly on and with. However, no-one will ever forget the human who could actually fly and who appeared on earth in 1939. This man could jump and fly through the air at whatever chosen moment: Batman... the Cartoon character created by Bob Kane. Today, Batman can leave behind his cartoon books and movie theatres and fly above the Swiss Alps, this person is Yves Rossy. He has finally achieved Leonardo Da Vinci's greatest fantasy and can fly through the air! Following a long line of predecessors, this Swiss man, who's lifetime passion is flying, once flew for the Swiss army at the controls of the Mirage III, then went on to fly as captain on Airbuses, and now has not only created and developed wings which allow him to fly, but also built and personally tested them over the past 7 years. Finally, and this since last Autumn, his dream became reality mainly because of 4 model-engines which were built under his wings. With these, he can fly at over 200km/hr and ...

Swiss Rocket: Video of 'Jetman' flying over Grand Canyon

COURTESY: BREITLING VNR Swiss adventurer Yves Rossy on Saturday completed a flight over the Grand Canyon, in the US state of Arizona, in his custom-built jet suit - his first such flight in the US Rossy performed the stunt on Saturday with little fanfare, before a small group of team members, and his sponsor, Swiss watchmaker Breitling, announced the successful flight on Tuesday and released footage. He was airborne for about eight minutes, soaring 60 metres above the canyon rim on the Hualapai Reservation. A planned Friday flight before reporters was cancelled after Rossy determined it would be too challenging without any practice runs. The US Federal Aviation Administration had given him the green light less than an hour before the scheduled stunt. Rossy's sponsor. Rossy flew up to 305 kilometres p/h before deploying his parachute and landing on the canyon floor.
