Eternally changed by the powerful and unthinkable story-line of the William Styron novel "Sophie's Choice", I immediately went to the piano and out poured this original tune. I felt (in the 1980's when I composed it) and still do, that it pays at least a token credit to the level of emotion the book delivered. The film having already been made (with haunting music by Marvin Hamlisch), I'd obviously missed the boat - however, perhaps now this music is in the public domain, it may feature as a musical backdrop for something as worthy and memorable at some time in the future.
