1974 | Ali vs Foreman | Zaire (part 1 of 4)

The 1974 "Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman is probably the most famous and most depicted of all heavyweight title bouts ever. One reason for this fascination might be that it was one of the most dramatic heavyweight bouts of all times. The features of the two opponents couldnt have been more different - on the one side the patriotic Foreman who had waved the Star Spangled Banner after winning the Olympics in 1968. On the other side the inconvenient black hero Ali, who had enraged the White establishment with his claim for conscientious objector status and his converting to Islam. The fight in Zaire and its surrounding occurences were even processed to a whole novel ("The Fight" by Norman Mailer, first published in 1975). Foreman was the experts favorite. He had won his last eight bouts unexceptionally by knockout in the first two rounds (amongst his deplorable foes had been Joe Frazier and Ken Norton whom Ali wasnt able to knock out or down in six bouts) and 37 of his 40 professional bouts. His strength was enormous and after he had punched the heavy bag for a couple of rounds, there was a huge bump in it - once he had even knocked it out of the affixture! source: see the whole story : www.float-like-a-butterfly.de

Keelay & Zaire - "The Times" featuring Blu, Fortlive and Nino Moschella

www.keeandzee.com Keelay & Zaire are a bi-coastal team that operates with only one concrete rule; creating music with unlimited range. Complementing each other's styles with precision, Kee & Zee work as a sole production machine that spawns gritty classic hip-hop, soulful R&B, and any other medium that requires an exclusive sound from the team. With Keelay out west in San Francisco, and Zaire in the east, holding it down in Virginia, the two have almost unlimited resources from which to draw talent and inspiration.

JOHNNY WAKELIN - IN ZAIRE 1976

Johnny Wakelin (born 1939, Brighton, Sussex, England) is a British Pye Records recording artist. He had his first outings in clubs in his hometown but without big success. Discovered by Pye record producer Robin Blanchflower, the man who launched Carl Douglas to the top of the charts with "Kung Fu Fighting", and working with Steve Elson and Keith Rossiter in addition to Branchflower, Wakelin set about writing songs that would, he hoped, "catch people's eye" Then he got the idea of writing a homage to the boxing champion Muhammad Ali who fought on 30 October 1974 in Kinshasa against George Foreman, gaining victory in the eighth round. In January 1975 Wakelin's "Black Superman (Muhammad Ali)" reached number seven in the UK Singles Chart. It reached number one in Australia and spent six months in the US Billboard Hot 100. It is thought that the American success of Wakelin's song inspired DC Comics to publish the 1978 comic Superman vs. Muhammad Ali.[citation needed] 1975 brought a further single, "Cream Puff," backed by "Gotta Keep on Going"; it flopped, but both songs would be incorporated into Wakelin's March 1976 album, Reggae, Soul & Rock 'n' Roll. A bigger success was "In Zaire" (also about Muhammad Ali) in 1976, which reached the charts in many parts of Europe. After few further hits ("Africa Man", "You Turn Me On", "Dr. Frankenstein's Disco Party") his success cooled down. He re-recorded his hit "In Zaire" in different versions which had a little success. RWANDAN REFUGEES IN GOMA ZAIRE(DR CONGO) - YouTube.flv

In 1994 as the genocide in Rwanda concluded with the Rwandan Patriotic Front taking control of the country under the command of United States trained, General Paul Kagame (now president), 1.5 million refugees flee into eastern Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). Along with the refugees are those who participated in the genocide in Rwanda - the Hutu Interahamwe who hide among the refugees. A humanitarian crisis of epic proportions is about to take place in eastern Zaire which comes to be an extension of the genocide in Rwanda. The interrnational community has formally recognized that there was in fact a genocide in Rwanda albeit reluctantly and after the fact (as to not have to respond as per the Geneva Convention article on genocide). For much of the same reasons will not recognize that the millions upon millions who have died in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo is genocide as well and in fact just a continuation of the genocide in Rwanda. Still until this day the conflict in the DRC is the greatest humanitarian crisis in the world and the deadliest since the holocaust of WWII. ABC News senior reporter Jim Wooten reports: "It is not like the famine in Somalia. It is not like the flight of the Iraqi Kurds into the mountains of Iran and Turkey. It is not like the siege of Sarajevo or the plight of Bosnians displace by that war. It is not like anything I have ever seen in 30 years as a reporter. It is, I think, the standard against which all ...
