the raid on zuccotti park

like me on www.facebook.com My office isn't far from Zuccotti Park and when I heard it was being cleared I went down with my camera. I ended up filming for 18 hours until the Park was reopened at 6pm on November 15, 2011. The police presence was overwhelming, more than I've ever seen - more than during the blackout, more than the days after September 11th.

OWS witness: Brutal lockdown in Zuccotti Park to fuel new protests

The birthplace of the anti-corporate 'Occupy' movement in New York has been raided and cleared out by police. Hundreds of protesters who've been camped out in Zuccotti Park for two months have been evicted, and banned from coming back to stay. Officers reportedly used force to kick out some of the activists, with witnesses suggesting pepper spray and tear gas were also used. Authorities removed all tents, citing health and safety concerns. But protesters say that's just an excuse to sabotage a massive demonstration planned for Thursday. An 'Occupy' activist Alexa O'Brien who was in New York at the time of the police raid, says that the authorities' heavy-handed response has been an infringement on civil liberties. Occupy Wall Street Removed from Zuccotti Park by NYPD (11/15/2011)

Around 1 am on November 15, the New York Police Department forcibly removed Occupy Wall Street protesters (OWS) from their months-long encampment in Zuccotti Park. Depending on how you feel about OWS, the clearing of the privately owned park was either long overdue or a violation of First Amendment rights. A new policy allows protesters to gather in the park, but they cannot sleep or camp there. Reason contributor Michael Tracey captured live footage as the NYPD forced OWS participants out of the park and away from adjacent areas. This four-minute video is taken from about 35 minutes of footage and includes an interview with a protester explaining how the original clearing of the park took place. "Even like the legitimate press," he explains, "like CNN, they [the NYPD] wouldn't allow them in there." Watch also NYPD Cop Punches Protester, similarly taken from Tracey's footage. www.youtube.com And check out our ongoing OWS videos and coverage at reason.com Follow Tracey on Twitter at @mtracey About 4:20 minutes. On Tuesday morning at approximately 9am, the NYPD forcefully pushed through peaceful protestors and made multiple violent arrests at Zuccotti Park in downtown New York. The protestors did not appear to give any resistance, but were thrown to the ground, injured and handcuffed for peacefully occupying Lower Manhattan. One young man was forced to the marble and granite benches by the NYPD resulting in a broken tooth and unspecified injuries to his face. www.hotindienews.com Occupy Wall Street Day 10, The Resistance Continues At Liberty Square By James Lane What/Who is Occupy Wall Street? Occupy Wall Street is a leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing they all have in common is that they share the mantra "We Are The 99%" that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. The original call for this occupation was published by Adbusters in July; since then, many individuals across the country have stepped up to organize this event, such as the people of the NYC General Assembly and US Day of Rage. There'll also be similar occupations in the near future such as October2011 in Freedom Plaza, Washington DC Since the 17th of September, they've had thousands of supporters flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street and appear to be committed to stay until our policies change. Similar to recent activist movements in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, they plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. The use of nonviolence to achieve their ends and maximize the safety of all participants is strongly encourage despite what may have been recently reported by some corporate major media outlets. An Afternoon in Zuccotti Park- Occupy Wall Street

I have always been confused about what exactly the Occupy Wall Street movement is. So to get the answers, my friends and I went to the heart of the movement in Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan on November 20, 2011. There we interviewed multiple people on the movement and got a bunch of footage of what was going on there. This is our footage. The idea for a film like this has been on my mind for a while and the fact that we got it done makes me very happy. If I interviewed you in the film and you're watching it now, I hope you enjoy it. As for the rest of you, please enjoy. UPDATE- 11/24/11 It turns out I interviewed Academy Award Winning Director, Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, Stop Making Sense, etc.) in this film without even knowing it. He was there acting as a protester for a film he is shooting about the movement. And the fact that I got an interview with him is an honor. He comes in at 5:20.

Occupy Wall Street, Afternoon at Zuccotti Park 9/25/11, interviews and raw footage, Part 1/3

I took a trip down to Zuccotti Park the afternoon of Sept 25th to see what was going on. Overall it was an interesting experience. I'm glad they are out there doing what they are doing. These are the people that are going to make a huge difference for the world today and tomorrow, and I'm thankful for them being out there. This is just a compilation of interesting footage and interviews with people I met there as well as some of the events that proceeded that night. None of this is footage of the marches that took place during the day. This is all Zuccotti park from about 3:00PM till around 10:30PM when I left. Sorry about the crappy video. Didn't know it would come out so grainy. This video has footage of picket signs laid out in the park, an interview with Matt (one of the demonstrators), footage of chanting in front of the park, an interview with Yussi who was working the food area, and an interview with Tom from the Worker's International League.
