TheAirbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS. On January 6, 2012, I went over to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to shoot some airplanes. I got one Qantas Airbus A380 landing (Qantas flight QF11 from Sydney) and another A380 taking off. The one I labeled as Qantas flight QF107 to New York is probably incorrect. It is more likely that it was a flight to Australia, but it may have been unpublished on the Qantas website that day. Anyway, it was interesting to see two A380s at the airport at once.

My 20 Tips on Flying an Airbus A380 (in no particular order) #1 Book early and go online and select your seat. Keep in mind that you cannot lean your head against windows (and sleep). #2 Carry an empty plastic bottle and ask the crew to fill it up with water. To land fresh you must drink a lot of water and the small glasses that serve you are not enough and you'll end up pissing the crew off by constantly asking for water. Ideally start hydrating a week before your trip! #3 As you plan your trip, start working out or walking 30 mins a day... in other words, the fitter you are the less of a strain upon arrival. #4 Remember, you are going to have a long line at the Immigration counters with over 450 passengers on this plane. And add to the number of bags that you'll find on the belt, its going to take some time to get out - so if you have connecting flights make sure its at least 3-5 hours in hand to catch that flight. #5 Always ask for special meals. Those meals come first and you will be done before the folks next to you get their food. You wont be jousting elbows over that piece of respective chicken. Plus, the food is piping hot. #6 If its a all day flight, try get a little nap but if its an overnight flight, try getting sleep by popping a pill. Maybe a over the counter sleeping aid. #7 Dont drink <b>...</b>

An experience on Emirates First Class Suites between Bangkok and Hong Kong - including views of the Emirates Lounge at BKK. The first class cabin on this flight was virtually empty, only 5 of 16 suites occupied. Business Class was not even full. I could not get a good view out of the window, and it was very bumpy coming through the clouds with the descent into Hong Kong (sorry for a few shaky moments there). Recorded May 3, 2012.

SINGAPORE, April 21, 2012 (AFP) - - A Qantas Airbus A380 jet that dramatically lost an engine in a mid-air blast off Singapore in November 2010 was formally handed back to the Australian flag carrier Saturday after extensive repairs. The near-disaster led to the temporary grounding of the Australian flag carrier's entire fleet of the A380 super jumbos, the world's largest commercial passenger plane, for inspection. Pilots managed to guide the plane back to Singapore's Changi airport, where it landed with a plume of smoke in its wake, after the engine exploded over the Indonesia island of Batam. Qantas dubbed the repaired plane Nancy Bird Walton, in honour of Australia's first female commercial pilot. "Qantas is proud to reintroduce Nancy Bird Walton back into service," said Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce. "After 18 months, Aus$139 million ($144.30 million) and nearly 100000 man hours of work, the aircraft is now going back into service." He said "there was a lot of damage to the aircraft" and that bringing it back to service was "one of the biggest repair jobs in aviation." Joyce was speaking to reporters before a ceremony in which Airbus handed the plane back to Qantas at Singapore's airport. Captain Richard de Crespigny, who was piloting the aicraft when the blast happened, received the flight log book from Airbus engineers in the ceremony held under the left wing of the hulking aircraft, next to the engine that exploded.
