There's no need to go to the emergency room for basic health care. The AAMC Community Health Center is a primary care medical practice for people who are on medical assistance or who have no insurance (also known as "self pay"). Medical assistance programs include Amerigroup, Priority Partners, United Healthcare Community and State (Americhoice), Primary Adult Care (PAC), and The REACH Program. "Self pay" patients are charged for services based on their income. An example of such an individual might be someone who has a full-time job, but no health insurance, or someone on unemployment who has lost health insurance. These individuals would be charged on a sliding scale, based on his or her income. A financial advisor at the health center will help patients through the process and determine fees before the appointment. Discounted specialty care also is available under these programs and for self-pay individuals. The Community Health Center is not for individuals with commercial insurance. Call 410-990-0050 for an appointment, or visit www.aahs.org/healthcenter. The health center is a member of the Anne Arundel Health System, Annapolis, Maryland.
