Abba - Does Your Mother Know

Solo drums intro or unreleased early rocking guitar intro, which is best? This is the unreleased early rocking guitar version, replacing the solo drums version that was actually performed in this show. Full volume for this one please! Abba visited Madrid on May 27-28 1979 to record 2 tv shows at the Roma Studios. The first show was "300 Millones" in which they performed I Have A Dream, Does Your Mother Know (solo drums intro), Voulez-Vous and Chiquitita (in Spanish). It was shown all over Latin and South America on June 3rd. The group then had one hour for lunch in a nearby restaurant where they had grilled steak and salad before the second show. This was "Aplauso" broadcast in Spain in which they performed Does Your Mother Know (this video with solo drums intro), Chiquitita (in Spanish) and Voulez-Vous. Benny and Bjorn took a song writing break to the Bahamas for a fortnight on January 22 1979 hoping for some musical inspiration. It worked - they came up with Voulez-Vous, Kisses Of Fire, Does Your Mother Know, As Good As New and I Have A Dream within 2 months to complete the Voulez-Vouz album. Bjorn recalls: "In the Bahamas we were staying next door to the Rolling Stones - 'Sitting In The Palm Tree', one of the songs I sang lead on, recently reminded me of Keith Richards in Fiji!" Does Your Mother Know had the working title 'I Can Do It' and two versions were recorded. An early rocking version was recorded on February 6 1979 which was used for the tv special 'Abba in ...

Abba - On And On And On

This video is for a very brave friend in Australia who has recently had a major operation. Abba songs have always been inspirational and they were clearly having fun here! Abba performed this rocking version of On And On And On for Show Express, a well known West German tv show. It was recorded in Stockholm on November 27th 1980, and broadcast live by satellite link to West German tv. It was originally planned for Abba to record the show in Germany. This trip was cancelled after kidnap threats against the group were received in an anonymous letter 2 weeks earlier. Everyone in the group was immediately put under police protection and advised to stay in Sweden. Rather than missing out, Show Express came to Abba instead! Their producers hired the SVT studios in Stockholm and flew over the tv crew, technicians and even the Show Express set from Germany to Stockholm. The studio building entrances were watched by ten policemen during the recording, while guard dogs searched the premises. Guests had to pass through 3 control stations before they were let into the building and rehearsals began at 3pm. The live link to Show Express in Germany was kept secret until Abba's slot commenced at 8.40pm, when presenter Michael Schanze interviewed Bjorn in German. Twenty minutes later the show was over and the German audience went wild. Songs performed to playback for the show were The Winner Takes It All, Super Trouper and On And On And On. The backing musicians were Mats Ronander (guitar ...

Abba - Money, Money, Money

Money, Money, Money was recorded in mid May 1976, and is one of Frida's highlights on the Arrival album. Lyricist Bjorn felt that the theme had already been used in a few other songs, notably "Money Makes The World Go Round" in the recent film Cabaret. His alternate title was Gypsy Girl. But he had to concede the lyrics did not work as well as with the original money theme. Money, Money, Money was a hugely successful single, hitting no. 1 in Australia, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, Belgium and Mexico. It stayed in the German charts for 6 months. Abba and Stig were rolling in Money, Money, Money by now. Abba did a ten day visit to Japan from 16-26 November 1978, their previous visit was in November 1972. They had 3 albums in their top 20. They recorded a one hour "Abba Special" for tv. The group performed 13 songs, sometimes surrounded by dancers. Some songs had a live backing orchestra, as in this performance. This gives the song a big band sound, making it noticably different from the recorded version.

Bill Wyman-"Nuclear Reactions" (1982)

One of my personal favorite tracks from his synth-pop self-titled 3rd solo album from the spring of 1982, which is also my favorite of all the solo projects he's done. This video is dedicated to my YouTube friend John (abbafanglosuk). Thank you, John, for being you.

Abba - Another Town, Another Train

Here's me in my favorite pastime, relaxing and seeing the world. This picture was taken in Malta in July 2007, when I luckily avoided the floods back home in Gloucestershire. Travelog to date: Poland x2, Hungary x3, Czech Republic x3, France x2, Holland, Belgium, Germany x3, Switzerland x2, Austria x3, Spain x2, Gibraltar, Italy x4, Greece, Sicily, Malta, Cyprus, Wales, Scotland, Isle Of Man, Jersey, Thailand, Egypt, Morrocco, Kenya, USA x3, Canada....to be continued. From Ring Ring album. Lyrics: Day is dawning and I must go, You're asleep but still I'm sure you'll know, Why it had to end this way, You and I had a groovy time, But I told you somewhere down the line, You would have to find me gone, I just have to move along, Just another town, another train Waiting in the morning rain, Lord give my restless soul a little patience, Just another town, another train Nothing lost and nothing gained, Guess I will spend my life in railway stations, Guess I will spend my life in railway stations, When you wake I know you'll cry, And the words I wrote to say goodbye, They won't comfort you at all, But in time you will understand, That the dreams we dreamed were made of sand, For a no-good bum like me, To live is to be free, Just another town, another train Waiting in the morning rain, Lord give my restless soul a little patience, Just another town, another train Nothing lost and nothing gained, Guess I will spend my life in railway stations, Guess I will spend my life in railway ...
