The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) is in operation to inspect the cleanliness of retail food outlets, including teashops and cafés in Male. The inspection, which was launched on 1st of June by Health Minister Dr Aminath Jameel, is carried out as part of the programme to check the conditions of the 539 restaurants, cafés and teashops in Male. Fifty employees of the MFDA are carrying out the operation launched under the motto of "Safe food supplies, everyone's responsibility". Dr Aminath Jameel said the operation would be difficult and would attract a lot of criticism when this program was launched.
