They work the best when you're reading and singing from a Fake book or lead sheet. Here are the three basic ways I accompany myself on piano when I'm singing. LRLR or LRR LRR for 3 time songs where you count 123 123. This is good when you want the music to be uplifting or create some rhythms to dance to. BLLL BLLL good for rock stuff HOLD for 4 beats - Good for jazz and ballads. or if you are just learning a song and trying to get the hang of playing and singing it. If you get these basic patterns down, its really easy to add a little variation in the rhythms to create a lot of new vocabulary for your playing.

"The Lonely" by Christina Perri - unlike my other piano renditions/covers, this is the piano instrumental (for the most part). Please rate, comment, sub, and share! So if you viewed my channel before you'd know that I do not "cover" songs exactly as the original...however after hearing this song I wanted to accompany myself and play the melody on a different instrument (this is why the last chorus has the melody in the piano - I wrote out a counterpoint part for the solo instrument to be played against the melody in the piano). It ended up not working out as my free software that I use does not combine two recordings without distortion and loss of sound quality...I already recorded a test run of the piano accompaniment, so I figured that maybe I should post it. Maybe I'll do the full instrumental at some point since this is a beautiful song, but for now I hope this can be useful to singers and instrumentalists who might want to sing/play-a-long. I bought his new album this morning at Walmart. I listened to it. And this song just blew me away. It went straight through my heart. It's like the perfect song for my life... I don't know how or why and with what intentions the person who wrote it had, but I took this song to heart. I have an arranged marriage. I mean I am going to have an arranged marriage in the future.
