Born in Kilnadeema, south of Loughrea in Co Galway in 1939, Joe Burke was introduced to music at an early age. His mother played the box in the old style. He recalls that he was four years of age when he first started playing. "There was always dancing in the house," he told one interviewer. His uncle taught him his first tune - Let Erin Remember. As far back as he can remember there was a gramophone in the house and he remembers listening to early 1930s recordings by the Ballinakill Ceili Band and Michael Coleman. His most significant instructors were the Downey family of Leitrim Cross, also near Loughrea. "A great music house, millions of tunes." Two or three nights every week the young Joe Burke played with Jack Downey and learned his trade. There were also good players around Ballinakill, between Woodford and Loughrea: Stephen, Eddie and Ambrose Moloney and members of the White family, from whom Burke learned his music. In the Fifties he bought an accordion in Waltons of Dublin for £5 which he still has. The one he plays most often was custom-made by the French maker Bertrand Gaillard and the reeds are hand-made by an Italian, Binci. He won the All-Ireland Senior Accordion Championship in Thurles in 1959 and again in 1960 in Boyle. Charles Thibodeaux Accordion Steve Doerr Guitar Howard Kalish Fiddle Charles Thibodeaux, Cajun accordionist Charles was raised in a traditional Cajun family household in Beaumont, Texas. His parents were Church Point, Louisiana natives and for their wedding celebration and dance, Iry LeJeune provided the entertainment. His parents spoke French around the house when they didn't want the kids to understand what they were saying but the kids understood it anyway. Charles's late cousin, Joe Thibodeaux, owned the Rodair Club in Port Acres Texas. During his youth, he visited the legendary club on a regular basis and was influenced to play the Cajun accordion by watching Andrew Cormier and The Rambling Aces band which included Rodney LeJeune, Dallas Roy and many other famous Cajun musicians. At age 16, a friend gave him a used accordion that had a couple of keys missing. It had tape over the holes and reeds that wouldn't play. After saving up his money, he bought an inexpensive Hohner but got side tracked away from his music for many years. While visiting an uncle in Church Point in the early 90's, Charles mentioned that he was shopping for an accordion. His uncle walked him through the pasture, and over to the house next door and Charles bought a Pointe Noir in the key of C from the famous accordion builder, Dick Richard. He also plays 2 Martin accordions in the keys of D and B flat. Charles formed a traditional Cajun Band in the Spring of 2004 for a group of Mardi Gras <b>...</b>

Me playing the Tetris Theme Song (Korobeiniki) on every accordion I own. And I mean EVERY accordion. ----------------------------- "MODERN" ACCORDION -This was my first (playable) accordion. It was the one I used when I first started taking lessons, and it was the first one I used for performing for a large audience. It's pretty worn out, but I still play it now & then. "LOMBARDI" ACCORDION -The first accordion I ever held & played in my life. My Grandmother bought it at a garage sale & kept it in the attic for 50 years before giving it to me. All the straps are rotted, but I'm determined to restore this personal piece of history. "FIRST ACT" ACCORDION -Yes, it is indeed a children's toy. But this is the closest thing I'm ever going to get to a Bayan Accordion for under $100. So far, Tetris is the only thing I can play on it. "CORDOVOX" ACCORDION -I actually bought this from my Accordion Teacher. Over 30 years old, the Cordovox Accordion (I think) was the first electronic accordion made. By plugging it into a speaker the size of a small refrigerator through a cord thicker than a garden hose, you can get electronic sounds to come out while also playing it acoustically. Sadly for me, the cord is frayed, and most of the electronic sounds don't come out anymore. "LIRA" ACCORDION -I got this from my Mother's friend who didn't play it anymore. Honestly, out of all the acoustic accordions I have, I'd say this one has the richest and most beautiful sound. Too bad both of the <b>...</b>
