The group, which formed in 2007, consists of Michael Angelakos (lead vocals/keyboards), Ian Hultquist (keyboards/guitar), Ayad Al Adhamy (synth/samples), Jeff Apruzzese (bass/synth bass) and Nate Donmoyer (drums). All of the band members, with the exception of Angelakos, attended Berklee College of Music. Chunk of Change (2007--2008) The band's debut EP, Chunk of Change, was released on September 16, 2008.[7] The first four tracks were those that Angelakos had written as a gift for his girlfriend, which had already become popular throughout the Emerson College campus, where Angelakos was attending classes at the time, and had been passing out his own, self-produced copies. Two tracks, "Sleepyhead" and "Better Things", were added for the commercial release of the EP.The same year of their debut EP's release, the band was chosen as "Best New Local Act in 2008" in the WFNX/Boston Phoenix best music poll. The first and only single to be released from the EP, "Sleepyhead", received a good deal of exposure through its use in numerous media campaigns and advertisements, while the video for the song, directed by The Wilderness, was included on Pitchfork's Top 40 Music Videos of 2008 list. Bostons Passion Pit will took to The Savoy, Cork for the March instalment of Heineken Green Spheres. One of the highlights of last years Electric Picnic, the band also brought their epic synth sounds to a packed Academy in Dublin last November. Their assimilation to the Heineken Green Spheres roster is another star in the series belt that recently saw stellar performances from White Lies, Miike Snow, Digitalism, Friendly Fires and Marina and the Diamonds.. Passion Pit is the brainchild of Michael Angelakos, joined on tour by Ian Hultquist (synths), Ayad al Adhamy (synths, samplers), Jeff Apruzzese (bass, synths) and Nate Donmoyer (drums). Angelakos originally wrote their first EP Chunk of Change as a Valentines Day gift for his girlfriend but such was the interest in it that he was prompted to return to the studio and turn it into a full album. The result was Manners an 11 track work that caught the attention of Columbia Records and subsequently a host of indie loving music fans and journalists alike. The albums lead single Sleepyhead features a sample of Irish folk legend Mary OHara but that is not where the Irish connection ends, with band member Nate Donmoyer being of Irish heritage. Heineken Green Spheres is a music series that is built on experiences that are out of this world.
