The culture of Afghanistan reflects its ancient roots and position as a crossroads for invading ethnic groups and traditions. Little the Afghans make is unattractive; even common grain bags to carry produce to market are often embroidered to make them more beautiful. A camel caravan of nomads often looks like a circus parade, with the animals decked out in woven finery. The Islamic traditions of fine calligraphy and graphic arts are evoked in the fine filigreed flourishes that decorate many buildings. Poetry and poets are revered. Although the people of Afghanistan may have been sorely stressed by centuries of warfare and a difficult environment, their arts have prospered nonetheless. Afghanistan which is called the crossroad of Central Asia has a history over 5.000 years but it has been always sacrifice of invasion, war and conflict. Afghanistan Religion is Islam & it has a key role in life of Afghan people, Thoes who are following Islam are called Muslims. Afghanistan Government Is an Islamic Republic Government. Afghanistan People are called Afghans or Afghani. Afghanistan food or Afghan food is a unique South Central Asian food with yummy taste. Zaffar reports on the particularities of the culture of Kolkata's Afghan community. Kalibuwalas of Kolkata -- people of Afghan origin -- arrived in the city in the late 19th, early 20th century. The majority of them originate from the region of Pakhita. The community migrated to India, bringing with them spices and dry fruits, and many of them settled and started business as moneylenders. Zaffar, VV correspondent in Kolkata, belongs to this community. With parents of Afghan origin, he has grown up in the community and celebrated its festivals. He decided to make a video to tell the story of their particular culture. They have developed a strong attachment to India, while retaining their original culture and traditions. Most of them still speak their original language, and celebrate their festivals. In the video, we see the men of the community dancing at the Eid celebrations. "There are a lot of differences between Afghanistan and India; the food, the dressing style, the customs. But what is similar is the attachment to culture," said Zaffar. However, an increasing number of members of the community are opting for the Indian nationality, and the younger generation is slowly adopting a new, more cosmopolitan lifestyle. Zaffar hopes that Kalibuwals's culture will be kept alive for long.

rt.com Whos stealing Afghan cultural treasures? 13 March, 2010, 06:53 Afghanistans unique location has made it home to the world's most complex civilizations that left a rich cultural heritage. But the war-torn country has now fallen victim to looters, stealing the nations artifacts. Ever since Afghanistan was invaded by Alexander the Great, nearly 2500 years ago, the country has seen one foreign army after another. In recent times the British, the Soviets and now the Americans And whatever reasons they give the impact of war continues to leave a cultural scar that runs deep through Afghan civilization. In many countries, the national museum is a source of pride where ancient treasures that explain that countrys history are on display. The Kabul museum, instead of boasting a collection that dates back hundreds of years, has bullet holes and destroyed artifacts. In the civil war, the museum was a military base repeatedly struck by rocket fire and largely destroyed. Later, the Taliban ransacked whatever items had not been moved for safe-keeping. And now theres a new enemy smugglers working in areas where foreign forces are currently in control. Mir Ahmad Joyenda of the Afghan parliamentary international relations commission told RT: Some military forces of other countries are doing some digging at night, he added but unfortunately in the last eight years we didnt put on trial a single smuggler for stealing the cultural heritage of Afghanistan. Nobody has been arrested ...

democracynow.org - We speak with journalist Neil Shea, who has reported on Afghanistan and Iraq since 2006 for the Stars and Stripes and other publications. Shea discusses his experiences witnessing disturbing behavior during his travels with US troops in Afghanistan and offers insight into understanding the massacre of 16 Afghan civilians. "When we cycle our soldiers and Marines through wars that don't really have a clear purpose over years and years, we expect light-switch control over their aggression," Shea says. "We expect to be able to turn them into killers and then turn them back into winners of hearts and minds. When you do that to a man or a woman over many years, that light-switch control begins to fray." Afghanistan - My Kabul 1 of 3 - BBC Culture Documentary, recorded 20.02.2011 In this BBC documentary, journalist and native Afghani Tahir Qadiry revisits his hometown of Kabul. Qadiry meets with not only the historians and politicians, but also the workers, children, and homemakers who represent the over-four-million people who live in Kabul today. Ultimately, the document comes to the point that Kabul consists of many varying regions, classes of people, and amount of progress versus traditionalism. It is evident from the documentary that Kabul is beginning to reach out to the modern age but various factors keep parts of the city from progressing. Narrow streets, hundred year old architecture, and poor sanitation systems seem to encourage old customs and little advancement. The people, though incredibly accepting and welcoming to Qadiry and his crew, still hold many of the fundamental values from Taliban occupation. With all its residents, it has become impossible to manage pollution and the documentary estimates that over 3000 people die every year from poor sanitation. Many families have to go all the way to the central part of the city just to carry water to their homes (Qadiry at one point tries to help a man to carry his water jugs but he can barely make it a few feet up a hill). Although an influx of foreign aid has begun to help reconstruct the new city, many parts have yet to see the money trickle down. However, the most central areas of Kabul such as Shahr-e-now ...

The Afghan nation have suffered for decades in one way or the other. This video is dedicated to them. AFGHANS display pride in their religion, country, ancestry, and above all, their independence. Like other highlanders, Afghans are regarded with mingled apprehension and condescension, for their high regard for personal honor, for their clan loyalty and for their readiness to carry and use arms to settle disputes.. AFGHANISTAN - has a complex history that has survived either in its current cultures or in the form of various languages and monuments. However, many of the country's historic monuments have been damaged in recent wars. Buzkashi is a national sport in Afghanistan. It is similar to polo and played by horsemen in two teams, each trying to grab and hold off a goat carcass. Afghan hounds (a type of running dog) also originated from Afghanistan. classic Persian poetry plays a very important role in Afghan culture. Poetry has always been one of the major educational pillars in Afghanistan, to the level that it has integrated itself into culture. Many of the famous Persian poets of the tenth to fifteenth centuries stem from Khorasan where is now known as Afghanistan.Rabia Balkhi, Jami ,Khwaja Abdulla Ansari,Anvari,Ali sher navai, Mavlana Rumi,Unsuri Balkhi, are examples. The eastern dialects of the Persian language are popularly known as "Dari". The name itself derives from "Pārsī-e Darbārī", meaning Persian of the royal courts.
